Alexxis D. Hutchinson is in her first year with Old Dominion University (ODU) in the Office of Strategic Communication and Marketing/Governmental Relations. She is no stranger to marketing; however, her expertise lies in the areas of athletic marketing and sport management. Prior to her appointment at ODU, she spent three (3) years with the multibillion dollar conglomerate,  IMG Collegiate in Winston-Salem, NC working in the office of the Chief Sales Officer and Senior Vice President for Strategic Marketing and Operations. IMG is considered the global leader in the areas of sports and entertainment marketing and is responsible for marketing and branding of over 90 Division I athletic programs. Currently, Ms. Hutchinson also serves an Adjunct Professor at her Alma mater, Winston-Salem State University, teaching Sports Management and Marketing classes.

Hutchinson works as a Sports Event Consultant for her own business, Simply Sporty and Chic (pronounced SHeeK).  She initiated her business in the spring of 2016. Through her business, she serves as an event planner and coordinator for sports banquets, fundraisers and multiple other events. She has been engaged with the Norfolk State Men’s Basketball program in coordinating their annual Tip-Off Dinner, the Woodrow Wilson High School Athletics Department Fundraising Banquet honoring U.S. Olympian LaShawn Merritt, the Big Hats and Bow-ties Event for Winston-Salem Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., and the Event Coordinator for the St. Joseph AME Zion Church Annual Golf Tournament. Through her event planning experience with both the CIAA and IMG she has gained a wealth of knowledge and experiences in managing and planning a variety of events, as well as  contract negotiations especially with hotels, restaurants, and negotiating various other venue contracts.
