We have all heard horror stories about nursing home care. We have heard about abuse, bed sores, sudden death, neglect, isolation, mishandling, new illness and the negative list goes on and on and on. Can nursing homes be that bad? Truly they exist for a reason and they have to be useful for some people for some reasons. Have you ever known a nurse who worked in a nursing home? Many nurses who work there report that the care that they give is essential and high quality. Can they all be lying? Probably not. Do they have some information about nursing home care that outsiders may not know about? Does the decision to place your loved one in a nursing home cross racial lines? In other words, are white people more likely to place their elderly family members in a nursing home than Black, or Hispanic people are? If so, why would that be? Is nursing home care a better option than, maybe home healthcare? Is nursing home care the secret better choice for the aging and ill? Let's talk about it.
