Success Made to Last Mentoring Monday with Kristen Stockton of 4wordwomen.

Mentoring Mental Health check-up topic… Actions for mentor mental health..

Mentors need to take time for self--You can’t give what you don’t have. Fill yourself up with mindset required before each mentoring interaction.

Mentors should avoid taking on the weight of the mentees challenges to “fix”, take a nod from coaching world to help the mentee move forward with an action step they will do, ask open questions… help the mentee act, limit your need to “do” for the mentee what they need to do for themselves.

Schedule time before the interaction to center yourself and focus on your role as mentor and how you need to show up

Then after each mentoring discussion to process the discussion and any actions you agreed to do—and when you will do them

Limit the number of people you are mentoring to make sure you can be effective—rule of thumb is no more than 3 mentees over a 6 month period of time.

4words mentoring program has this already built in for both mentors and mentees, as it has a structured cadence, provides great tools and resources.

So many great outcomes from women who have gone through the mentoring program—even relationships which are virtual!
