HR Happy Hour 426 - Thinking about Business and HR Like an Anthropologist

Hosts: Steve Boese, Trish McFarlane

Guests: Martha Bird, Business Anthropologist, ADP

This episode of the HR Happy Hour is made possible by Workhuman.  Their solutions replace isolation with recognition, connection, and celebration.  Keep morale high by celebrating the new babies, birthdays, much-needed well-wishes, and all your special occasions with Life Events.  Give and receive continuous peer feedback, have regular check-ins between managers and direct reports, and set goals to stay aligned with Conversations.  Now you can try these free through March 2021.  Visit welcome.workhuman.com to learn more.

This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, Steve and Trish were joined by Martha Bird, to talk about the role of the business anthropologist, and how thinking about business and technology through the lens of the anthropologist can create benefits and value for the organization. Anthropologists are trained to listen, look, and understand what people are really doing with the tools and technologies we create, as well as understand what customers need from the tools we build.

We also talked about our favorite kinds of pie - and Trish shared her favorite Vinegar Pie, which I suspect might be a new one for you, and we discussed the best ways to make pie crust

This was a really interesting show, thanks to Martha for joining us and check out her book recommendation, Ethnographic Thinking.
