Mark Johnson is a semi-retired Tai Chi Gung instructor + healer. He continues to judge Tai Ji tournaments regularly, serves on the Advisory Council to the National Qigong Association, + leads Daoist retreats to China +Tibet yrly. Mark studied + practiced Eastern Philosophy 45+ yrs + has apprenticed W/ some of the most prominent Vedanta, Zen + Daoist teachers in the world. He has been a member + research subject at the Institute of Noetic Sciences for 15 yrs.
1 of a handful of Westerners W/ Mark's training in many Chinese disciplines. In addition to Tai Chi instruction, Mark specializes in Qigong (self healing through movement), Feng Shui (study of energies of an area), the I Ching (China's ancient classic on how things change) + Chinese calligraphy. Mark has integrated these disciplines in creative ways for 35+ yrs.
1970 started Chinese studies, joining the I Ching scholar, Khigh Dhiegh at the Taoist Sanctuary in Los Angeles. In his 4 year stay at the Sanctuary, he studied the I Ching, Taoism, Yang style Tai Chi Chuan + the Chinese language.
1974 relocated to Taiwan to study acupuncture. There he studied W/ several highly respected Taoist Masters. After 1 yr he moved to Malibu, CA continuing his Taoist training 8 more yrs. He learned 3 Taoist styles of Chi Kung/Tai Chi + the 8 Treasures. Also studied advanced I Ching, Feng Shui, Calligraphy + enhanced his natural healing abilities.
1982 taught Tai Chi to Francis Ford Coppola +the cast +crew of the movie “The Outsiders”. While W/ them, his Chi Kung healing abilities were recognized so he was asked to return to do healing for the cast + crew of “Rumble Fish.” Mark's students included Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio + many others.
