HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Legendary whistleblower and Former Chicago Police Officer  Shannon Spalding will be joining us for our first show of the new year.    Shannon: “I was born on the South Side of Chicago, in the McKinley Park-Bridgeport area.”  As a little girl, I oved investigating things and discovering secrets. I was pretty good at it. When I grew up, I wanted to put those skills to use to help people. So, I started working with the Illinois Department of Human Rights, doing investigations. And again, I was pretty good at it. So, I decided to make a career out of it.”  In 1996, Shannon was sworn in as an officer of the Chicago Police Department.  She  started working as an undercover narcotics agent in some of the toughest South Side neighborhoods, “ I loved it. I was good at it, too. The folks on my beat called me ‘Blondie’. We helped each other, and as the years went by we grew to care about each other. We built a community. We built trust.”  For five years,  I worked with the FBI to expose corruption within the CPD as part of Operation Brass Tax. This decision cost me the job I loved so much. Other officers called me a “snitch” and a “rat.” My superiors warned me I was likely to get shot… by a fellow cop. Eventually I had to leave the force for my own safety  (Shannon Spalding) Who I Am — Shannon Spalding
