Celtics Talk Radio Episode 293 Celtics Season ends in Round 1 of the Playoffs

    in Sports

The Boston Celtics season has officially come to an end and now an offseason officially filled with a ton of questions is upon us. The offseason got off to a hot start this past Wednesday when Celtics GM Danny Ainge announced he would be stepping down from his position and Head Coach Brad Stevens would be getting promoted from his position to take over the GM position meaning that on top of the team needed a complete make over to try and get back into contention for an NBA Championship. The team now has to deal with getting a new Head Coach. Which of course now begs the question for many fans who will that new head coach be and will the new head coach be able to win over the stars of the team who reportedly Head Coach Brad Stevens lost as the voice of the locker room. Meanwhile on our last show the Celtics had just won game 3 to make it a 2-1 series lead for BKN. The Celtics would then lose the nex 2 games to have their season ended. With game 4 being in Boston with the top story from that game being the incidents that occurred after the game where former Celtics PG now BKN Nets PG Kyrie Irving went to the center of the Celtics court and stomped on the Celtics logo and then smeared his foot as to indicate he was cleaning crap off his foot which caused Celtics fans to take exception then as he walked off the court a fan threw a water bottle at him which then allowed him and fellow superstar Kevin Durant to say Celtics fans are racist. The outrage for both incident was enough that former players including Celtics greats like Cedric Maxwell and KG responded outraged at what happened. So we will give our final thoughts on this season. Adam Taylor of CelticsBlog (@AdamTaylorNBA on Twitter will join us). How do we feel about how the season ended? What about the incident involving Kyrie Irving stomping on the logo and the fan throwing the bottle? Does Brad Stevens need to cater to Tatum and Brown this summer and get their opinions in the next moves?

Mike Safo with Brad Balukjian, author of "The Wax Pack"

    in Sports

Joined today by author of one of the best sports books of the year, The Wax Pack, Brad Balukjian. Brad and I talk about his friendship with The Iron Sheik, why the proposed book idea didn’t happen and how their relationship is now. He shares what inspired him to grab a pack of 1986 Topps baseball cards, open and it and travel the country with the plan of interviewing the ball players. We chat about how he got started on the project, what was his goal and what he thinks of the current card market. We discuss Richie Hebner, Gary Templeton and Carlton Fisk and how he had to balance not fan-boying out and asking difficult questions. Brad tells us about visiting his favorite ball player, Don Caren, growing up and what it was like to hang out with him and have a catch with him. Brad explains why he included personal details from his life into the book such as his OCD, his relationship with his dad and past relationships. From funny stories involving Rick Sutcliffe to the tragic heartbreaking interview with Doc Gooden’s son. Brad takes the reader on a ride through their childhood using our favorite toy, Baseball cards. Follow Brad and purchase the book here.
