What Goes Around Comes Around or, GIGOHi, This is Rivan Elan (or Pastor Daniel) depending on if you have heard me before on Blog Talk Radio or in person. Tonight in Spiritual Pathways we will be talking about the idea of our actions returning to us. Many people would call that Karma and equate it with Eastern Philosophy however Karma is a much more detailed concept than this. We are going to just be talking about this idea of our own actions returning to us in an amplified form. Many religions believe this and it is a strong concept in New Age Religions. One reason the idea has such a strong hold in the US is because of our Judeo-Christian roots. You see this concept is repeated over and over again in the Bible and so it has a strong footing in Western Culture. Many people forget that the Judeo-Christian religious roots of Western culture are of an Eastern origin. As such, the beliefs in the Bible tend to be viewed with the bias of Western philosophy and our Enlightenment culture. This is not the tradition that it was written in and, I believe, this bias leads us to some grave misunderstandings of what we are reading when we read the Bible through these "Western" concepts that we have grafted onto the Bible. Concepts that Jesus would have found to be both foreign and possibly even dangerous. I have often wondered, what are these people talking about? Have they actually met Christians like that? And what of these warped ideas about God and what he expects of us? Almost everyone has an answer for that and almost everyone's answer ignores what the Bible actually says. As Jesus said of the Pharisees people are trying to tie up a whole bunch of rules of "how TRUE Christians" are supposed to act and put them into bundles of burdens that are too great for anyone to carry. So people "pretend" to be good, or they act "churchy" on Sundays but are then jerks the other six days of the week. So what does really want. Lets forget all of the noise and vacuous opinions that everyone seems to have and dive right into the heart of the matter.
