Your host, Viyahta is joined by Peggy Wellknown Buffalo from the Crow Reservation in Southern Montana.

This podcast explores the culture of the CROW NATION in Garryowen, Montana.  What is it like to live on the Reservation in 2016?  How are the indigenous people overcoming the history of violence, racism and oppression?  These questions and more will be answered along with introductions to songs, prayers, and practices that have been around for hundreds of years.

Peggy Wellknown Buffalo, comes from a line of chiefs and medicine women and who practices traditional ways.  Her 16 year old grassroots non-profit organization, the Center Pole, is a learning center on historical land, located just below the Little Big Horn Battlefield Monument.  In 2014, she was recognized as an Unsung Hero of Compassion by the Dalai Lama.  Learn more about Sundance, the Peyote way, songs by the Natives, spiritual healing, the Doctrine of Discovery and more. Each week we hear from the local community and learn more about the culture and lifestyle of these Native people. Our mission is to reveiw history and become empowered by the lessons learned and opportunities to evolve spiritually.  We're bringing unity to the nations.

The Reservation is a unique lifestyle with many challenges.  The Crow Nation residents are challenged with poverty in many areas but rich with millions of acres of land which gives them the opportunity to develop a better land and community.  Their stories will enrich your understanding of indigenous people and enlighten you with knowledge about a nation of people who have deep roots in America.
