Jan Yager is a prolific author and publishing professional who has been researching and writing books since her first book, on the history of vegetarianism, was published by Scribner’s when she was just 26. The former J.L. Barkas, she went on to get a masters in criminal justice and a Ph.D. in sociology. (Her graduate school, The City University of New York, made her a recipient of a prestigious Alumni of the Year award in 2006.) Yager, who has taught at the University of Connecticut, St. John’s University, Penn State, and The New School, among other colleges and universities, is the author of 26 award-winning nonfiction and fiction titles
