PawedCast Episode 125: Alanna Kennedy Interview, Atlanta Recap, Toronto & Pride

    in Soccer

Orlando City finally had its winning streak snapped but we take some solace in the fact the Lions were able to go toe-to-toe with one of the league’s top teams, even though a soft early penalty got the visitors off on the front foot. The Lions played much better in the second half of the match and we’re here to break it all down, including our Man of the Match, thoughts on the officiating as a whole, and yes, that mess at the end.
We’re also talking about the Pride’s outstanding road swing through Utah and Portland and the team’s five-game unbeaten run. Joining us to tell us more about it is none other than Pride and Australia star Alanna Kennedy. She has played a lot of soccer in 2018 already even though only a few games of that were played in an Orlando uniform and she talks to us about her national team, the 2018 Pride, winning in Portland, and more.
We also answer our listener questions in our Ask The Mane Land PawedCast mailbag, and give you our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City’s match Friday night at Toronto FC.
If there’s something you want us to address on our next show, just tweet it to us @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC.
Here’s how show No. 125 unfolded:
0:12- Losing sometimes happens but the important thing is that Atlanta provided a measuring stick and it turns out the Lions might be pretty OK this year. Plus, the Pride’s road swing, Justin Meram’s drought finally ended, and more.
51:03- Alanna Kennedy on the Pride, women’s soccer, Australia, playing with Marta and Sam Kerr, and plenty of other topics.
1:07:30- The #AskTMLPC mailbag and our predictions for the Lions at the Reds.

Colchonero Chat 116: The one where they win Europa League

    in Soccer

Rob Walker (@rwalk03) is a staff writer at Into the Calderón and the guest on this edition of Colchonero Chat, which centers on Atlético Madrid’s Europa League triumph in Lyon.
Atlético’s 3-0 win against an overmatched Marseille marked the club’s third Europa League crown in eight years. Rob and Into the Calderón site manager Jeremy Beren (@JBBeren) delve into a comfortable victory at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, which saw Antoine Griezmann net a brace and Gabi score his first goal for two and a half years. The podders analyze how Atleti made the Europa League look relatively easy and what that says about the team’s growth over the past year.
After taking questions from Colchonero Chat Amigos, the guys then turn (sort of) to Sunday’s finale against Eibar. Los colchoneros need a draw to make second place theirs for the first time since 1991, but Diego Simeone is not expected to field a strong team after Wednesday’s win.

Let's Fix Football 136: Sergio Ramos, Soundcloud Rapper

    in Soccer

Gabe Lezra and Evan Mateer are back to talk about the only story that matters this week: Real Madrid captain and generally hilarious person Sergio Ramos making the much vaunted transition from athlete to Soundcloud rapper. SR4 is the song, and it is generally available on iTunes, Spotify and all your other streaming services.
    OK cool bye good show.
Alright fine, they also talk about all the different end of season news, including Chelsea's victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup final (an indictment of Mourinho, his transfer policies, both?), Bayern losing the DFB Pokal final (funny), and Barcelona losing its invincibles season to Levante 5-4 (funnier).
Then it's a conversation about Christian Pulisic, who is apparently being shopped for about GBP 40 million (low!) and Tottenham's potential interest in the American winger, and the transfer market generally.
    Mario Balotelli come to MLS!
