So Beyonce drops a new album and the world is in a frenzy!  Now, you may say that's typical for the release of a Beyoncé album.  But this is not a "typical" Beyoncé  album. And when United Nations gets in on the debate, that's anything but typical. Apparently, Crazy in Love can still be classy and Dangerously in Love still somewhat demure. But Drunk in Love is just downright dirty! Some have called it freeing feminism; a work of art.  Others have deemed it foul and embarrassing.  Some  say it's the huge push towards sexual and wealth equality that women have long awaited.  Others say this music takes women, especially women of color, decades backwards. Will the Real Men Please Stand Up!?Many of you remember growing up and hearing your elders refer to someone as a "man's man".  While no one ever provided a literal definition, you knew exactly what that term meant by paying close attention the males around you whom were graced with the title.  A man's man is a real man; a real class act. He's well groomed with proper fitting clothing and attire appropriate for the occasion.  He is worldly and educated, if not by formal schooling then by the school of hard knocks; a gentleman nonetheless. A man's man is polite and chivalrous, but not a punk. He respects women, controls his temper and his liquor and keeps himself in shape. Most importantly, he will admit his faults and errors, because that is what real men do, right? Well, a recent article in Elite Daily titled Why Men Aren't Really Men Anymore (http://elitedaily.com/life/culture/why-men-arent-really-men-anymore/) says that the man's man no longer exists and boldly points out the sad state of affairs our men are in today.  According to the article society today is riddled with "boys who are refusing to grow up and man up" and "poor excuses for men have the bodies of adults and the mentalities, as well as the social outlook of [horny] toddlers". Is this true? Is this all that we are left with?  Are there no real men left to raise our sons into men that can marry our daughters?  Who is teaching our daughters not to accept anything less than being treated like princesses they are?  What happened? Where is the disconnect?  How did we go from a generation of men who were protectors and providers to a generation of men who carry no responsibility other than to themselves.  There once was a time when men dressed to impress. Today the men are simply wearing dresses! Join us as the #MurchisonGirls ask the question...will the real men please stand up! 01:11:00Sisters Real Talknowomen, life coaching, finances, relationships, self esteemMany of you remember growing up and hearing your elders refer to someone as a "man's man".  While no one ever provided a literal definition, you knew exactly whSisters: Real Talk! Everyday on Facebook and Instagram there are dozens of posts and photos of missing children; the majority of them girls.   Ariel Castro kept three girls captive for years right under the noses of their community.   How do we keep our children safe? Do they have too much freedom and responsibility?   Are they running away or being abducted? What are we doing wrong?  What are we missing?  Are we ignoring the cries for help? What happened to the nosy neighbor that watched everything and saw everything? Is no one questioning or reporting when they see a child alone or with a person with whom they are obviously uncomfortable? Let's talk about it!  Join the #MurchisonGirls tonight for some facts, statistics and safety measures. And an open discussion about how we as a community can do a better job at keeping our children safe. And you know we are going to recap Election Day 2013! I am not a rebel. I am not claiming any alliances. Natural hair has become big business and controversial. In the last 10 years we’ve seen the increase of natural hair care products, self-proclaimed natural hair care experts, bloggers and vloggers, naturalista groups and meetups. Living Past Sickle Cell- Fallling Angels This week on Sisters: Real Talk! Living Past Sickle Cell.  Join us as the Murchison Girls have a serious discussion with Falling Angels about a serious illness, sickle cell disease.  Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects approximately 70,000 - 100,000 individuals in the United States and 3 million have sickle cell trait.  The Falling Angels Foundation is a group of families, patients and caregivers who are committed to improve the quality of life for those with sickle cell disease.  Their mission is providing education, support, screening, and counseling to families with sickle cell disease.   When founder Cynthia Settles, parent of a daughter living with sickle cell, . discovered that there was very little knowledge or information about the disease, she began her research.  Cynthia's goal was to get a better understanding so that I could improve the quality of health for her daughter, Atiya. One of the biggest challenges for Cynthia as a mother was to watch her child go through a sickle cell crisis and feel absolutely helpless. Atiya, now 25 years old and a mother herself, is the spokesperson for Falling Angels.   Also joining us, an oncology nurse, Joe, who specializes in sickle cell patients and supports Falling Angels in their efforts. A graduate from Texas Wesleyan University, Chey B studied Business and Psychology.  But it's his study in life's university where he gained his true expertise.  When Chey B first considered the thought of coaching others professionally, he was at a breaking point in his life, he had hit rock bottom; lost everything that he thought was important to him, and that's when Chey B found God and discovered his true purpose in life! Living in a homeless shelter at the time; only by the Grace of God was Chey B blessed with the strength, courage & wisdom to still help others build their relationships via social media outlets. This life lesson taught Chey B to be a cheerful giver when he has everything, but most importantly when he has nothing. Today, over 50,000 people from around the globe support www.askcheyb.com by connecting via the "AskCheyB" Relationship Blog, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram. Chey B just published his first self-help book titled "Food, Sex & Peace of Mind" (What A Woman Needs To Know To Keep A Man) which has a strong focus on "The way men think, why men do what men do, and how men truly feel about women". Put on your Pink SHOES for Breast Cancer! Tonight on Sisters: Real Talk!  Tune in as we get up close and personal with LaKesha Jackson, 33 years young and a breast cancer survivor and founder of Pink SHOES, Inc. In a recent article, Newsday described Ms. Jackson as "a living testament to the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” In her case, pink lemonade would be more accurate." Diagnosed at age 31, LaKesha was thrust into the range of symptoms and emotions that accompany breast cancer.  Instead of giving in to the disease, she beat it and used her experience to give back to those in similar shoes...Pink S.H.O.E.S to be exact. LaKesha and friend Ganesa Taylor started a non-profit organization called Pink S.H.O.E.S. Inc., whose moniker stands for Strength, Hope, Optimism, Endurance, Survival. The mission of Pink S.H.O.E.S. is to spread awareness that women 40 and under do get breast cancer, and to educate young women about early detection. In addition to monthly support meetings, the group raises money to buy pink roses and custom wigs for patients.         #SistersRealTalk 01:00:00Sisters Real Talknowomen, breast cancer, self esteem, pink SHOES,healthTonight on Sisters: Real Talk!  Tune in as we get up close and personal with LaKesha Jackson, 33 years young and a breast cancer survivor and founder of Pink SSisters:Real Talk! with Joelle & Tiffanyhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/sistersrealtalk/2012/10/11/sistersreal-talk-with-joelle-tiffanyLifestylehttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/sistersrealtalk/2012/10/11/sistersreal-talk-with-joelle-tiffany/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/sistersrealtalk/2012/10/11/sistersreal-talk-with-joelle-tiffanyThu, 11 Oct 2012 02:30:00 GMTSisters:Real Talk! with Joelle & Tiffany The word Boudoir, derived from the romance language of French, means a woman’s private bedroom or dressing room.  A woman’s bedroom is where she is most confident, where she is free from inhibitions and where the inner beauty can shine through.  Boudoir Photography brings that confidence to life!  The lens of the camera captures what is often overlooked in the mirror, the phenomenal woman inside!  Make no mistake, we’re not talking trashy.  Au contraire mon frère.  These pictures are classy, tasteful works of art.  Boudoir photography is exhilarating.  It renews a woman’s relationship with her inner self…a confidence that last long after the lights, camera, action.    Join us tonight as The Murchison Girls talk Boudoir Photography with Karen Wilson of Cha Cha Sugar Boudoir Photography.  Listen in as Karen tells how she is preparing for career transition by turning her passion into profits in the male dominated world of photography.  Find out how Boudoir Photography is transforming the lives of the women both behind and in front of the camera! www.blogtalkradio.com/sistersrealtalk #SistersRealTalk 01:00:00Sisters Real Talknowomen, career, self esteem, photography, boudoirThe word Boudoir, derived from the romance language of French, means a woman’s private bedroom or dressing room.  A woman’s bedroom is where she is most confidSisters:Real Talk! As the author of Free Stylin,’ Romero tells the untold story of a multi-billion fashion phenomenon. Published by Praeger for release in Spring 2012, the book chronicles hip-hop’s transition from the hood to the runway; how race, ethnicity and culture played into commercialism; how celebrities impact the fashion industry; and ultimately what led major department stores to jump on the urban bandwagon. When Reality [TV] Smacks You in the Face!   In the first season of Basketball Wives we saw just a glimpse of Shaunie’s drama as she argued with Gloria Govan about her sister Laura's affair with Shaq. Apparently, when Shaunie went to the video tape she didn’t like what she saw & quickly fell back from the drama. Nonetheless, with her face time decreasing, her bank account increased. Shaunie sat back as the other ladies filled up the space she would have occupied with their fights, flings & lawsuits.  Entertainment or exploitation? Iin the finale of Season 5 we see Shaunie somewhat bothered by the height of the “excitement”. She is concerned that the negative connotation of the show has impacted other business ventures. She wonders if she is thought of as a “hot, ghetto mess”. Guilty by association maybe?  Shaunie is not the only woman in the game of getting rich off of reality TV. What about Love & Hip-Hop producer Mona Scott-Young of Monami Productions? Despite her A-list of clients from Jim Jones to Missy Elliot, Mona sits behind the camera as her own mentee, Yandy Smith battled with Chrissy Lampkin. Mona even made a brief appearance as a voice of reason amidst all the beef. Like Shaunie, Mona's collecting 2 checks for 1 show, one for being the producer, the other for being a cast member. And the spin-offs! Ball Wives LA. Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta, RHoEVERYWHERE. And my Caucasian Sisters, we haven’t forgotten y’all-Mob Wives Chicago! Can you say CHA CHING?!  So where is the line that divides income & insensitivity & is it ok to cross that line? Why are we women, allowing, even forcing, the media to portray us in such light? It was the first time that most of my family and friends heard the details. The feedback has been awesome. We have received word of people really taking a look into their own circumstances and making decisions for the better. Nonetheless, my thoughts were not as organized and concise as I had planned with this being the first time I told my story in a public forum. There were questions that went unasked, points left unspoken and an audience left with more to say. So we are going to do it again… Sisters: Real Talk family, this show is for you! This is your opportunity to ask the unasked questions and tell the untold stories. We will also provide statistics that will blow your mind and more information on getting professional help. Don’t miss “Victory Over Domestic Abuse Part II” this Wednesday, March 21st @ 10:30pm. Thank you for your honesty and openness. If my story can be the catalyst for even just one woman or man to change their circumstance, for just one teenager to get out of an unhealthy relationship, then nothing I went through was is vain. I truly understand that without a test, there can be no testimony. I sincerely hope that you will join us again for Part II.
