Red Summer is a multifaceted poet, performance artist, activist, filmmaker, writer and publisher who has made a career of speaking up and speaking out. She hails from Chicago’s South side where she was able to hone her talent with organizations such as POW WOW and Young Chicago Authors. She’s currently among the top twelve poets in the world as designated by the Women of the World Poetry Slam and has prevailed in numerous dramatic and poetic competitions. Red Summer’s performance covers a range of emotions as she poetically describes incidents of injustice, complexities of relationships and the joys of life. She is the fresh voice we’ve all been waiting for.

With a highly requested travel and performance schedule, Red Summer keeps her center in Atlanta where you can find her gracing the stage of numerous coffee houses, colleges, high schools and theatres. She’s an advocate for youth empowerment and offers a series of workshops to college and high school students, called Verbal Remedies. In 2009, Red Summer will release her second collection of poetry, Raw Sugar. Her highly requested performance CD, Shades of Red, was released in 2008.
