Pamela Good: Improving community literacy and changing lives

From its' humble beginnings as a winter coat donation project in the Detroit Public School System, Beyond Basics has grown to be a leader in solving the nationwide problem of illiteracy.Sean talks with Beyond Basics co-founder Pamela Good about her involvement in ending illiteracy and how she came to see the perspectives of the students in extreme poverty.

Pamela believes that the soluton for solving injustice between the suburban and urban school districts in public education lies in helping people become readers.  The inability to read proficiently is inextricably tied to poverty, lack of social mobility, low self-esteem, crime, and violence, she says.
