But did you also know we spent a few days in Amsterdam too? Amsterdam is beautiful and has a very laid back vibe. The city has a slew of museums and is a mix of new buildings, old buildings and canals. Because the city is extremely bike friendly we would suggest to look both ways before crossing streets. . . because a bike will run you over!   If traveling to Amsterdam from another city in Europe, consider traveling by train. Don’t let anyone convince you to trade seats on the train. . . especially if you are traveling with a “hangry” Kim.  We also suggest that you explore the city on a food tour with Urban Adventures. A trip to Amsterdam is not complete without visiting the Red Light District, if that’s your thing. You should probably get in some culture and check out museums like the Rijksmuseum! Oh, and of course get a selfie with the IAMSTERDAM sign. 00:53:00RoundTripnonetherlands,amsterdam,Travel,vacation,EuropeOn this week’s episode, we finally talk about our trip to Amsterdam!RoundTrip #020 – Moving to Canada?http://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2017/01/19/roundtrip-020-moving-to-canada-1Travelhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2017/01/19/roundtrip-020-moving-to-canada-1/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2017/01/19/roundtrip-020-moving-to-canada-1Thu, 19 Jan 2017 02:00:00 GMTRoundTrip #020 – Moving to Canada?Topics Haha!! Not saying you want to move. . . but if you happen to have a useful set of skills (meaning you need to work for money), hit the lotto, or have $200K (dual citizenship, anyone?) lying around, you probably can move your life to some pretty nice locations around the world. Getting around Paris was a breeze! From taking Uber to using the metro system, both were easy to maneuver. One note, you must remember to press the exit button to get off of the metro, not all doors open and Kim found that out the hard way. Paris is known for its culinary treats, so try a food tour to experience how to eat and drink like a Parisian. No trip to Paris is complete without a trip to Versailles and a visit Marie Antoinette’s “hamlet” better known as Petit Trianon. We explored the grounds on a bike tour and had a delightful picnic by the grand canal near the Palace. Go and experience the opulence of the Palace of Versailles. Speaking of macaroons, ok maybe we were just thinking about them because they were so delicious, take a moment and inhale as many macaroons as you can at Laduree or Pierre Herme. Both are fabulous, but different in the sense of traditional vs unique flavors and presentation. Also check out the independent chocolatiers for macaroons and chocolates that are just as fantastic. Visit Paris and get lost in its beauty! 00:42:00RoundTripnoTopics First impressions are the most lasting, and though a bit cruddy and worn out on the edges, after a few days in Paris the beauty of the city is overwhelmiRoundTrip #015 - #travelsquad | Being in Brazilhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2016/08/21/roundtrip-015--travelsquad-being-in-brazilTravelhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2016/08/21/roundtrip-015--travelsquad-being-in-brazil/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2016/08/21/roundtrip-015--travelsquad-being-in-brazilSun, 21 Aug 2016 17:49:57 GMTRoundTrip #015 - #travelsquad | Being in BrazilTopics Now that the 2016 Olympic men’s diving and rugby are over in Rio, we can focus on other things . . . like talking about Brazil!  Outside of cultural revelations observed during our viewing of the Rio opening ceremonies (yes that really was a slave trade re-enactment), we also learn that meat and fruit are a big deal in Brazil! According to our guest, Brazil is known for its beautiful beaches, so you have to get in some beach time. Hang out at the beaches in Salvador, Bahia and take in all of the many beach vendors selling everything from sunglasses to fried cheese also called "queijo coalho". When the sun goes down, and you’re done with your cheese, take some time to hang out amongst the locals. You can do like Vonetta and check out a local strip club, to observe the polite exchange of services between the beautiful women and men, ask for Gabby (just kidding). Like any new place, plan your adventure accordingly, and if your cab driver says no to dropping you off someplace, don’t fight it! No matter how much you want to see favelas. Why you would want to see the hood, we don’t know, I mean if you’ve seen one hood you’ve seen them all. Travel tip for Brazil: Vonetta also advises that you take into account the requirements for entering the country and set aside plenty of time to get through that process. Take your own meds and bring enough currency to buy your fried cheese. 00:45:00RoundTripnoTopics Now that the 2016 Olympic men’s diving and rugby are over in Rio, we can focus on other things . . . like talking about Brazil!  Outside of cultural reveRoundTrip #014 - Cosplay, Conventions and Comics, Oh My!http://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2016/07/21/roundtrip-014--cosplay-conventions-and-comics-oh-myTravelhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2016/07/21/roundtrip-014--cosplay-conventions-and-comics-oh-my/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/roundtrip/2016/07/21/roundtrip-014--cosplay-conventions-and-comics-oh-myThu, 21 Jul 2016 02:55:11 GMTRoundTrip #014 - Cosplay, Conventions and Comics, Oh My!?Topics This week’s episode is all about conventions! We had the pleasure of sitting down with Christian Monckeberg and Cory Miller to talk Cons. These guys are the the hosts of The Powerful Nerdcast, a fellow Rouge Intel podcast you should check out! Seems there is a Con for everyone! We discuss the do's and don’ts of attending any convention, including Comic Con, Dragon Con, Momo Con and more! We also talk about the intimidation of attending one of these events for the first time. Travel Tips Pro-tip #1 Start slow, decide what you want to do and which event is for you. It's a convention so NOW is the time to dust off that My Little Pony costume and go all “equestranaut” on 'em! Are bronies still a thing? Pro-tip #2 Be sure to participate the unique activities. Cory mentions wrestling at Dragon-Con, which has to be awesome, because #1 it's wrestling and #2 it's wrestling live, 'nuff said. Pro-tip #3 Don't be afraid to go all out or keep it simple with your cosplay, stick to your level of comfort. However, avoid con-shaming by not being weird and randomly taking photos of people off of the Con floor. Ask and be nice! Pro-tip #4 Scope out the scene on Thursday, but hit the ground running on Friday and Saturday when the best panels normally take place. Our guests suggest Dragon-Con for you virgins. Start with a one-day pass and then build up to the 3-days pass once you get the hang of it. Remember to keep your shit together when you meet all of the interesting and famous people you're bound to meet at your next convention. Pro-tip #5 Hydrate! Make sure you have enough water. Christian suggest bringing a Camel-pak to have easy access to water, while freeing up your hands for fun stuff. Also consider downloading the convention app so that you will have easy access to the event schedules. Carry-On:00:39:00RoundTripno?Topics This week’s episode is all about conventions! Travel Tips 1. Pick a destination: We polled our #travelsquad, but feel free to throw spaghetti at the wall (not for real though) and pick your top location randomly. 2. Create a budget: We can’t stress enough to stick to your budget unless you got money to blow. If that is the case, bring us something back, preferably something “designer” and in the shape of a purse! 3. Research airlines: You’ve probably heard us talk about low-cost or budget airlines, and Airbnb vs hotels. Take a look at all of these options when planning how you’re getting to Europe and where you’re going to lay your head. 4. Money, Money, Money - MonAAAY: Check the currency that is accepted in the countries that you are visiting, apparently everybody doesn’t take the Euro! Also keep an eye out on the exchange rate and consider bringing along a zero foreign transaction fee credit card or load up a passport card with Euro’s and other currency prior to your trip. 5. What type of experience you want to create: Whether it’s a cultural experience or a full tourist-y tour, compare prices for those activities. However, consider exploring the countries you are visiting with #noplan, you never know what hidden treasures you’ll find. Carry-On Our Carry-On suggestions focus on long-distance travel. One of which includes a 15-hour flight from hell. . .  followed by the fear of a forest abduction. . .  and ends with an epic elephant swim! Whew, I need a drink! Are you afflicted with wanderlust? Kim thinks she was born this way. Renee feels that she grew into it. Our guest chats about how she came down with a recent bout of wanderlust resulting in an upcoming trip to India. Note: there was some wine involved and a drunk call to Kim. . . Could wine be a wanderlust trigger? Further research is needed. POUR! Kendra also talks to us about how she manages her wanderlust while being part of a dynamic-duo (yup, she has a hubby). Wine Break Speaking of wine, Kim and Kendra enjoy a delightful Fume Blanc from Grgich Hills Estate which is one of our favorites! Renee sips on her favorite grocery store Moscato from Jacob's Creek. We reminisce about that one time when Renee got her hand slapped for trying to help herself during a tasting at Cakebread Cellars during our Napa, California jaunt. Carry-On What is in your carry-on? Our guest suggests ear-plugs as a low-tech solution to help you catch some z's while traveling. Renee shares info on a low-cost carrier airline Norwegian Airlines. 00:45:00RoundTripnoTopics This week we are joined by our awesome #travelsquad member Kendra. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” ? J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings We love talking about movies almost as much as we love to travel, but first we suggest titles for award winning film parodies. . . think “Leo and the Bear.” Renee defines a travel movie as one that focuses on an internal or external journey. Kim describes travel films as having the location or journey as a character in the story. Deep right? Ok, not really. Our all-time favorite travel movie picks consist of romances, adventures, fantasy and a rather unorthodox family road trip. Renee's #1 movie pick, Forgetting Sarah Marshall happens to have been filmed at Hawaii’s Turtle Bay Resort. Surprisingly, a few members of the #travelsquad got kicked of off the beach of that same resort. . . well not kicked out, more like politely asked to leave. During a sofa meditation session, Kim discovers a love story that she actually enjoys and her #3 pick, An Affair To Remember. Anytime a story starts with “so this one time, I almost drowned” you know its going to be good. Also, Stacey admits to making a few poor travel decisions which prompted #dontbelikestacey. As our resident expert on all things rewards related, Stacey recommends signing up for an airline rewards credit card that allows for the transfer of miles to different airline programs. Get your reward point situation together, but #dontbelikerenee and miss out on points by booking with third party hotel booking sites. Renee advises “mile hoarders” to look for cross promotions between partner programs and link your rewards number to those programs. Chocolate covered peeps do exist! What better way to say, “I like you, but not that much” than a gift of chocolate covered peeps? Renee pays homage to Kim as being the one that connected her back to her long lost traveling roots. Renee’s time in Germany dashing down the autobahn with her mother and eating delicious pretzel sandwiches turns out to be her fondest travel memory. Kim reminisces on how childhood family vacations have shaped her love for travel. Seems her very first “grown-up” trip to NYC sealed the deal on her love affair with travel. Since its Valentine’s Day, the conversation takes a turn down the dating lane. If you don’t like to travel and watch football, it looks like Kim isn’t the catch for you. She will pass you a pack of chocolate covered peeps and bid you adieu.   Renee refuses to put a foot in Kim’s travel shame bucket, but admits that she has chocolate covered peeps on deck!  00:23:00RoundTripnoTopics Happy Valentine’s Day!!! In paying tribute to Finding Nemo, we both agree that the Great Barrier Reef would get us closer to our dreams of finding P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney.
