She is a faculty member at Southern Methodist University teaching in the graduate dispute resolution program. Conflict results from real or perceived opposition to one’s values, actions, desires or general interests. Conflicts may occur internally or externally between individuals or groups. Constructive Conflict refers to conflict in which the benefits exceed the costs. Destructive Conflict often flows from narrowly defined or rigid goals, and most often produces negative results. Involved parties succumb to personal attacks, threats and a general tone of hostility. How can you determine, at the start, if a conflict in your life is constructive or destructive? If it is destructive, do you know how to end it without any or much damage?
