The woman who murdered his brother and critically injured Charles had another child die in her care just 10 months prior, she never went to trial for either death or her assault on Charles. He has made it his life long quest to seek justice for not only his brother but all abused and murdered children.           Throughout his young life, Charles was abused in every way possible. Despite their background and experiences, they have chosen to forge ahead to become productive, self-sufficient adults... Meet Shakeema and Davon. Shakeema Isaac was born in New York City. She entered foster care when she was 4 years old and aged out at 18. Shakeema had a challenging time. When she aged out, she was lonely and scared of relationships. “I was being taken advantage of and had no one to turn to” shares Shakeema. Now 30 years old, Shakeema is a college student and business owner who continues to strive to excel higher as she manages life, one day at a time. Davon Mitchell is a 24-year-old former foster youth who  has  experienced many roads in life. For Davon, his prayer is that these roads all lead to his success in life. “Family matters to me,” states Davon. “Having witnessed both the functional and dysfunctional aspects of family while growing up, has helped shape my views. I have chosen to leave it all to God and deal with life one day at a time.” Davon is a part-time college student, works several jobs, and is a single father who focuses on strengthening family, for himself and his son. He credits having many mentors for helping him set goals and establish core values. As a  published author and avid writer, Davon continues to inspire others through his literary work. 00:33:00NINA FITZHUGH WELLSnoAged-out,foster youth,Davon Mitchell,Shakeema Isaac, nina fitzhugh wellsHost, Nina Fitzhugh Wells interviews two former foster youth who are excelling higher in life. However, for the past 10 years, she has concentrated her practice in foster care. “This is my passion,” states Hankin. “There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about how we can do it better-how we can help make a better life for every child in care we are blessed to serve.” Hankin earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at California State University (Chico), and her Master's in Social Work at the University of Denver. “My real test did not come in getting those letters behind my name; rather, it was years of soul-searching and dedication to find answers that have informed my practice.” She began looking for answers when she grew tired of seeing foster children treated as 'disposable'- it was common to receive referrals for children who had been in 5, 10, sometimes even 20 or more different placements. “That will never be acceptable to me,” states Hankin. In 2012, she decided to create her own foster care agency—“Courage Community Foster Care” (www.fostercourageco.org). It is small and locally based by design, and everything that she does is centered on teachings from Dr. Bryan Post and the Post Institute. The Post Institute (www.postinstitute.com) is an organization that leans heavily on teaching caregivers about brain development in children with a trauma history, and on promoting love-based parenting as opposed to traditional parenting techniques with foster children.     00:33:00NINA FITZHUGH WELLSnofoster care, aged out, kerri hankin, nina fitzhugh wells, courage community foster careSince the age of 19, Kerri Hankin has worked in the field of child welfare-in abuse prevention, community organization, and sexual abuse. She was adopted and raised in Colorado, but Nebraska and the issues in foster care remained close to her heart. Leigh married and returned to Nebraska with her husband, Patrick, to raise their two sons. From 2000-2002 Leigh worked with teens in a group home which inspired the Esaus to pursue their foster parenting license. Through the next several years Leigh and Patrick fostered over 20 youth who benefitted from their stable and loving home. The Esaus were blessed to complete their family by adopting four of their foster children. Through her foster parenting experiences, Leigh realized the need for foster children to receive good quality clothing of their own and the need foster parents have for support. Out of this realization, the Foster CARE Closet was born. Since its opening in 2006, The Foster CARE Closet has served over 10,000 children and families in Nebraska by providing them with needed clothes and supplies. The Foster CARE Closet has been recognized in the State of Nebraska as a 2012 Charity Integrity Award winner from the Better Business Bureau and nationally as an Angel in Adoption award winner. On any given day, one can find this dynamic duo for Christ on the streets of Richmond, Virginia, spreading the love, generosity and compassion of Jesus Christ. Pastors Mike and Danielle Hathaway are making an impact by saving souls and changing lives. Apostle Michael “Mike” Hathaway is a true pioneer for the Kingdom of God, known for his inspiring and uplifting messages. God took his tenacity from the streets and transcended it to the Kingdom, leading him to step out on faith and launch New Generation International Ministries (NGIM). Apostle Mike has an Apostolic calling to cultivate leaders to spread the word of God to the nations. He is a catalyst for social climates in the areas of education, business, and the political system. Like her husband, Prophtess Danielle has a desire to see all people walk in their God given purpose and live a more abundant life. She has a passion to teach children not only to dream, but to live that dream. Her ministry, “Daughters of Zion” encourages all women to be confident in whom they are created to be. The Hathaways, along with their five beautiful children, have dedicated their lives to building the Kingdom of God and ensuring deliverance over nations. They have an unyielding passion for Christ and a heart to see people encouraged, educated, and edified in the things of God. 00:34:00NINA FITZHUGH WELLSnoHathaway,New Generations International Ministries,Danielle Hathaway,Mike Hathaway,Nina Fitzhugh WellsCHRISTMAS IS THE ULTIMATE GIFT THAT GIVES YEAR ROUND... The oldest of two children, she was raised by a teenage single mother. She endured molestation, childhood sexual abuse, promiscuity, dysfunction, teenage pregnancy, high school drop out, and instability. Although statistics said one thing, she set out to prove them wrong. She chose to “take the bull by the horns” and run like Forest. She kept on running until she found a place of solace. In 1995, she found the Lord and allowed Him to take residence in her heart. Men, clubs, alcohol, drugs… none of those things could fill the void she had in her life…only GOD. Her favorite saying is, “What the enemy meant for bad, God will turn around and mean for your good.” Nicole is a living testimony.  Nicole is a Professional Fundraiser, Magazine Editor, Radio and TV Host, Author, Motivational Speaker, Minister, Wife and Mother. Her published works include: “So He Cheated, Now What?” (2010): her personal testimony of how the Lord restored her marriage after an affair that produced a child; and” So He Hurt You, Now What?” (Coming 2014). She currently resides in Richmond, Virginia with her husband of 17 years and her 4 children.  Contact Nicole Cleveland at: http://www.nicoleconline.com.   00:33:00NINA FITZHUGH WELLSnoDedicates her life to helping others…                                                   Nicole Cleveland is determined not to let her circumstances dictate whDr. S.
