Many, perhaps most, Deists feel that God designed His creation with enough precision that further intervention is unnecessary. And an intervening God raises the question of evil. If God does intervene in His creation, why does He allow suffering to exist? For some Deists there is a reasonable middle path. Creation is not necessarily an event that took place billions of years ago. We can also look at creation as a process that is still unfolding. We may not see evidence that God is intervening, i.e. stopping or changing the process of creation, but this opens up the possibility that God is still interacting with his creation. If God or God's spirit is still present in the creation, we may experience interaction with His spirit. This is spirituality at its root. Join us Saturday, February 19th as we explore the notion of a non-interfering Deist God and the possibility of interacting with God and God's creation. Come spend 30 minutes with us beginning at 4:00 PM Central, 5:00 Eastern, 10:00 in the UK, 11:00 in Germany and 9:00 AM Sunday in Australia. This is interaction week. Whether 'tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of the revealed religions or spend our energies trying to prevail against them. Deist faith is quite different than the Abrahamic faiths. How should we relate to mainstream faiths that dominate the religious landscape? The great religions are the source of much hope, comfort and joy for billions of people. They have also been the source of much suffering, oppression, and death for millions of people. Is Deism divided into two camps on this issue? Certainly, how we relate to the Abrahamic faiths or other religions is ultimately an individual choice. How bright are the lines that separate the different approaches to Deism? How do you respond to incidents, news, and encounters with other faiths when they are very different than the Deist viewpoint? Come join us in our first half-hour show on Saturday, February 5th at 4 PM Central, 5 PM Eastern, 10 PM in the UK, 11 PM Germany, and 9 AM Sunday in Australia. We believe that God exists based on reflective reason, personal experience, and observation of nature. 2. We believe that fellowship, community, and mutual respect are essential components of life. And our most important human characteristic is our capacity to love. 3. We believe our principles should evolve with societal progress and our knowledge of the universe. We are further guided by these principles (not listed in priority order): 4. We believe everything we need to know of God can be found in the universe itself. 5. We do not believe God acts in the universe in ways that contradict natural law, but do not deny the possibility. 6. We believe that human beings are capable of having profound experiences of God, but hold that such personal revelations are true only for themselves. 7. We believe in the intrinsic value of life and advocate honesty, prudence, compassion, and justice in our dealings with one another. 8. We believe people should be free in all aspects of their lives, provided they do not disturb the peace, happiness, or safety of society. 9. We encourage all to advance the human condition within their personal capacity to do so. However, we believe religion should be separate from government and neither this nor any Deist principle should be used to justify political positions or causes. 10. We believe that religion is a personal matter guided by the dictates of conscience. We do not advocate efforts to convert people to Deism, but instead endeavor to promote Deism and educate those who are interested. Come join us as we explore Deism, the Non-Prophet Religion, every other Saturday afternoon. There are no required beliefs, no tenets, no commandments. In Unified Deism we have put together some principles that most of us find reasonable enough to agree with (although agreeing is not required). One of these principles states that we believe God exists based on reflective reason, personal experience and observation of nature. What is reflective reason? Why is the reasoning process we use considered reflective? Is that different than the reasoning process that other Deists and Freethinkers use to reach their conclusions? Join co-hosts Dave Gaddis & Chuck Clendenen on Saturday afternoon, September 4 as we reflect on the answers to these questions and more. Ask us about Deism, the non-prophet religion. What unites us is not the conclusions we reach, but the way we reach them, through critical thinking, logical reasoning, observation of nature and our personal experiences. In this first episode we invite people to join in a discussion about taking Deism into the mainstream to take its rightful place among the world's most popular and well-known religious philosophies.
