The Agenda: A giant falls while the Government continues to bumble along

It was a sad day when Gough Whitlam passed away. He was a true giant of Australian politics.

And when you list the accomplishments of his 1,071 days as Prime Minister and compare to modern politics it makes you hang your head in shame. Worst still is that the Abbott Government is feverishly chiseling away at Whitlam's achievements and accomplishments.

But then it has to be expected these days that the Abbott Government will continue to undermine the social contract and economic fortunes of the nation. Just look at what the Abbott Government is trying to do with the Renewable Energy Target after completely dismantling the carbon price.
