Everything looked great on the outside - living on my own apartment in the perpetual summer of Santa Monica, making good money in a stable job - but not even my closest friends knew I was profoundly depressed that I planned my own suicide and was hopelessly addicted to alcohol. I felt like I'd tried everything - moving from job to job, place to place, boyfriend to boyfriend - and nothing worked. Depression groups, individual therapy and medications helped for a short while but I always ended up more depressed than when I started. After awhile, alcohol was the only thing that soothed me, and if this was how life was going to be forever more, I just wanted out. Quite unintentionally I ended up in anaddiction recovery program for a year that literally saved my life. One of the first things my coach in the program instructed me to do was to sit still and meditate for 20 minutes every morning. Well, I'd never been able to meditate before and I doubted that just "sitting still" would accomplish much of anything. Plus detoxing on alcohol and not having my self-soother anymore made it quite impossible for me. But I had no other option so I tried my best, and though I couldn't sit still for 20 minutes, I found that I could be relatively motionless for about three minutes, and I could do this about three times a day. (This is what evolved into my current 3x3 meditation practice that I teach all my coaching clients.)00:35:00Pro ChangenoLife Coach,Addiction,Recovery,Diana Proctor,Shamielle AlstonSeptember 2008 found me in the darkest place of my life. It will help to create a continuous dialog between parent and child, teacher and child and, most importantly, child and child. Future titles, including Simon Says Thank You and Simon Says Please will explain more about why these mannerisms are necessary and how they have a positive effect on our lives. “The book's aim is to teach children to be courteous and respectful of others around them,” says Teresa, author and creator of the Simon Says series. This book is particularly valuable for small children, preschoolers and kindergartners, who will quickly absorb what is being taught. It might even reinforce manners among some adults... Proper manners and courtesy are how we prosper in life, so why not teach our children how to prosper while they are young? Simon Says Share and future books in the series will give adults the key to open a dialog with the children they read it to. The illustrations are eye-catching with vibrant colors, and the book is filled with characters that children can easily relate to. 01:00:00Pro ChangenoChildrens Book,Teresa Butler,Shamielle Alston,Morals,EthicsSimon Says Share is the first of a series of books that will talk about mannerisms, sharing and the courtesies we should use everyday, giving the reasons why weCommunication is Not a Four Letter Word!http://www.blogtalkradio.com/pro-change/2009/02/09/Communication-is-Not-a-Four-Letter-WordBookshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/pro-change/2009/02/09/Communication-is-Not-a-Four-Letter-Word/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/pro-change/2009/02/09/Communication-is-Not-a-Four-Letter-WordMon, 09 Feb 2009 18:00:00 GMTCommunication is Not a Four Letter Word! Many of us can see where we want to be.
