This is Jeanette's Autism Show - a fortnightly radio programme hosted by Autistic author, advocate, public speaker, artist, Government official, owner of Whimsy Manor and human mum to Mr Kitty, Jeanette Purkis. It is a place for discussions around Autism advocacy and empowerment covering such topics as employment, education, relationships and sexuality, mental health, families, communication, pets (and especially cats) and positive living generally. Jeanette's website is www.jeanettepurkis.com
This week Jeanette interviews Catherine Pascuas. It's a great interview - enjoy.
Catherine Pascuas is the producer and host of The Autism Show Podcast, a weekly interview show with autism experts and changemakers. She also provides training and consultation to families and organizations that support individuals with autism. She's the author of the upcoming book, The Autism Activities Handbook.
And Jeanette's Autism Show is 'aware' that this show is being aired on 2 April which is the UN-sanctioned Autism 'awareness' day. Jeanette thinks awareness is OK but not by itself - I mean bullies are 'aware' of a person's differences. Jeanette thinks that any day marking the value of Autistic people should probably be called 'Autism acceptance, respect, understanding, love and friednship [and insert your own adjective if you like and then add 'awareness'] day. Also I am unsure why it is just one day :)
