Eric Rankin grew up in the yachting industry in Southern California, and he drew from his experience as a Coast Guard licensed boat captain and SCUBA diver to create the lush landscape for his spiritual adventure tale “The Aquarians.” Eric has also been swimming with dolphins both wild and tame all over the world, and for years knew he wanted to include them in his novel. As the manuscript went through its developmental stages, Eric began to weave his fascination with the ancient Mayan calendar and its predictions for the year 2012 into the story.
“The Aquarians” is now Amazon.com’s highest-rated book (fiction or non-fiction) regarding the subject of 2012. Focusing his attention on the positive aspects of “the Aquarian Shift” as many people are calling this moment in history, Eric weaves a tale of love, hope and the idea that the dawning Age of Aquarius represents the era of enlightenment that so many cultures and religions have predicted.
For Eric, writing a novel that would not be too “airy-fairy” for mainstream readers or too conventional for an enlightened audience proved to be a challenging task. In telling a story about humanity moving into what Mayan shamans refer to as a “next level” of consciousness, his greatest hope was that he would be able to intrigue readers just enough to want to explore this subject on their own.
