She is the Founder & CEO of the Nancy DeKatch Caregiver Institute, a non-profit organization focused on educating and supporting the underpaid caregiver. The institute’s mission is to identify, attract, and reach out to this large and growing population of unpaid personal caregivers, to provide educational resources; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual support; respite relief; and an opportunity to rest and recuperate in a setting conducive to healing and restoration to wellness. Her personal hardships led Nancy to create the Institute, which provides a personalized blueprint to aid caregivers through trying and often stressful times.
There are over 45 million caregivers in the US. The majority of them are the sole caregiver for a family member, are unpaid, and have minimal if any access to outside resources such as paid respite relief, financial compensation, or emotional or education support information. Many are forced to sacrifice their jobs, their social network, and even their health and wellbeing to provide round-the-clock caregiver attention to a loved one. Most of these caregivers are severely stressed and over-burdened, chronically fatigued, and susceptible to physical, mental, or emotional burnout.
The institute is located at the Respite Ranch retreat facility in southern Genesee County, Michigan. It’s situated on a secluded wooded 60 acres and close to nature with abundant wildlife, which is conducive to healing and recuperation.
