Connected Warriors

Connected Warriors began with a small group of Yoga teachers in South Florida who felt that we could help returning service members and their families with the physical and mental issues they face as they return home. We could not ignore the reports of suicide, depression, insomnia and domestic violence, especially as long time yoga practitioners ourselves; we knew first-hand the benefits that Yoga can deliver. The practice of yoga creates a deep sense of calm which for these men and women can provide a powerful complement to conventional methods offered by others.

Connected Warriors has grown into a charitable organization whose mission is to teach proven yoga techniques to service members, veterans and their families by establishing a nationwide network of volunteer teachers offering free classes at local yoga studios, community veteran centers and other donated spaces. We make direct contact with veteran assistance centers, clinics, local and national veteran organizations and maintain a consistent schedule of presentations and lectures to increase awareness of our program. Recent media coverage has led to an increasing demand from service members and veterans for classes and inquiries from facility operators and yoga teachers offering to join in our mission.

We engage with case workers, counselors, and therapists working within the VA and the veteran outreach community who understand the therapeutic benefits of yoga for their clients. It is clear that our returning service members will require this type of community support. An important benefit of Connected Warriors participation is that service members and veterans find a sense of community with others who have served.
