During her doctoral program, she was exposed to pelvic health rehab in a refreshingly honest and holistic lecture and then continued training at a pelvic health specialty clinic with Results Physiotherapy in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her mentors showed her how optimal body function needs to incorporate “unmentionables” and the role of the physical therapist addresses the all parts of life deemed important by the patient. She has continued her post-graduate training with Herman and Wallace Pelvic Health Rehabilitation Institute. Molly also pursues advanced manual orthopedic therapy training through Summit Professional Education, Therapy Network Seminars, and the Institute of Physical Art. Prior to joining Beyond Basics, Molly worked as an orthopedic therapist at Ivy Rehab in Harrison, New York where she treated a wide range of presentations and age groups strengthening her appreciation of the association between body systems and clinical reasoning abilities for complex diagnoses. Molly passionately advocates for the inclusion of physical therapy in unconventional and overlooked situations. If given a listening ear, she will convince you that physical therapy has beneficial contributions in the complex environment of pain management and opioid prescription. And if you’re a new mom, be ready for Molly to normalize the conversation about pelvic floor health—she wants to make sure that women have higher expectations from the capacity of the body. 00:29:00PelvicMessengernophysical therapy, health and wellness,Health, pediatrics, toiletJoin us as we talk bed wetting, constipation, toilet training, pelvic pain and all things pediatric pelvic floor!6f3618cb-d258-41e9-979a-0aa90953e26c117fullIntegrative Medicine in Gynecology Practice with Dr. Kathryn Witzemanhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2019/05/06/integrative-medicine-in-gynecology-practice-with-dr-kathryn-witzemanHealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2019/05/06/integrative-medicine-in-gynecology-practice-with-dr-kathryn-witzeman/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2019/05/06/integrative-medicine-in-gynecology-practice-with-dr-kathryn-witzemanMon, 06 May 2019 20:00:00 GMTIntegrative Medicine in Gynecology Practice with Dr. Kathryn WitzemanKathryn Witzeman, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine. My Mother was interested in herbs, natural medicines and hunted mushrooms. My Father practiced meditation. I flourished in a local community  grounded in the "back to the land" movement. The  nature loving lifestyle of this era helped me develop the necessary awareness needed to be a good doctor, healer and human being. One of my first jobs was as a tour guide at The Rodale Organic Experimental Farm. The proximity to Rodale Press created a culture of holistic health, natural living and creativity. It was a time of creative renaissance with optimism, a sense of freedom and individualism. I've traveled around the world studying various forms of healing, to come back to my roots, here in Pennsylvania to live and practice a natural healthy life. I studied Environmental Science as an undergrad. I worked with the best environmentalists and ecologists of the era including Barry Commoner, The Jacques Cousteau Society and the New York Attorney Generals' Office in the Bureau of Environmental Protection. My interest turned to nutrition and health when I got sick in college. This ultimately lead me back to a focus on my own personal environment.I changed my diet, studied Macrobiotics, shiatsu and that lead me to Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine. 00:54:00PelvicMessengernoLearn all of the helpful modalities of acupuncture and oriental medicine for chronic pelvic pain4f0c2f6e-34d3-4b64-aa47-8ea3c1c7db63111fullSex After Cancer: Dr. Vanessa Kennedyhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2019/02/26/sex-after-cancer-dr-vanessa-kennedyHealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2019/02/26/sex-after-cancer-dr-vanessa-kennedy/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2019/02/26/sex-after-cancer-dr-vanessa-kennedyTue, 26 Feb 2019 23:00:00 GMTSex After Cancer: Dr. Vanessa KennedyDr. Kennedy provides specialized surgical care and chemotherapy services to women with gynecologic malignancies and complicated benign gynecologic conditions.  She performs procedures through a variety of approaches, minimally invasive surgery using laparoscopic and robotic techniques. About the Film:  "It is estimated that 6% of those with vaginas will have vaginismus at some point in their lives, but it’s impossible to determine an exact number since shame and embarrassment keep so many women from seeking medical care. As a Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, she is at the forefront of a new wave of researchers who are exploring the surprising ways that chronic pelvic pain—including interstitial cystitis, chronic prostatitis/chronic male pelvic pain, vulvodynia, endometriosis, and their comorbidities—change how the brain processes information, and these changes can re-shape the brain’s anatomy. Dr. Farmer brings a unique perspective to these questions—as a clinical psychologist with a Ph.D. from McGill University, she was trained in sex therapy and chronic pain management while developing mouse models of persisting pain caused by repeated infections. She extended her work to neuroimaging during her postdoctoral studies at Northwestern, where she leads the Northwestern neuroimaging arm of the NIH’s multicenter research consortium, the Multidisciplinary Approach to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain, or MAPP for short. Dr. Farmer will discuss how pain becomes chronic, and how emotional and motor learning may play essential roles in chronic pelvic pain. This leaves medical practitioners with few skills to address and treat anxiety, particularly when they are the ones to be confronted with anxious reactions in the clinic. While also acknowledging that many practitioners are supplementing their biomedical skills with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness and other ‘techniques’, it is nonetheless necessary for physical therapists, nurses and doctors to establish a trusting and secure therapeutic relationship with their clients. She also plans to address cultural sensitivity as it relates to the diverse populations that practitioners treat.  Talli is joining us to talk about this very important topic and we are absolutely honored and so grateful to have her own the show. 00:59:00PelvicMessengernotrust,patient,provider,secure relationship, relationshipSex therapist and pelvic floor physical therapist, Talli Rosenbaum, will discuss how to build a secure relationship between patient and provider.Dr. Coady discusses Vulvodynia: A highly impactful genital pain conditionhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2016/04/14/dr-coady-discusses-vulvodynia-a-highly-impactful-genital-pain-conditionHealthhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2016/04/14/dr-coady-discusses-vulvodynia-a-highly-impactful-genital-pain-condition/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/pelvicmessenger/2016/04/14/dr-coady-discusses-vulvodynia-a-highly-impactful-genital-pain-conditionThu, 14 Apr 2016 18:30:00 GMTDr. Coady discusses Vulvodynia: A highly impactful genital pain conditionOur guest for show is Deborah Coady, MD, FACOG, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Langone Medical Center.  She will join the show to discus the new 2015 consensus on vulvar pain terminology, which published by Obstetrics and Gynecology Journal (The Green Journal) April 2016 Issue. Women still go to an average of 68 doctors for 810 years before they are diagnosed. They are still told it’s in their heads, that pregnancy and hysterectomy are cures, and that pain is normal. Dr. Leserman’s research has been the inspiration behind her becoming a member of the board of her local agency to prevent domestic violence.  Dr. Leserman has authored and co-authored over 100 papers on topics concerning psychosomatic and behavioral medicine.  You will not want to miss this one-hour discussion on her research behind the role of physical and sexual abuse and trauma within the diagnoses of chronic pelvic pain disorders. He is here to discuss some of the underlying causes of the biggest diagnoses chronic pelvic pain patients deal with. While many of us, have IC, Endo, Pudendal Neuralgia and more...we also often might have other diagnoses going on we are unaware of, that are either mimicking these bigger players or making them worse. In either case treating these other diagnoses is important to feeling better!! I think we can all agree that being able to recognize the subtle differences in our pelvic pain can be hard, especially when everything is hurting at once. Tune into this show to help yourself with gaining the insight on how to do this!! Dr. Castellanos expertise includes pudendal neuralgia, pelvic congestion syndrome, pelvic floor muscle spasms, interstitial cystitis, and pain related to vaginal mesh procedures. He has special skills in pudendal nerve decompression surgery, ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks, and Botox trigger point injections. He is also a fellowship trained minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon for the treatment of complex pelvic pathology and pelvic pain.  He has presented at national congregations and published on various topics related to chronic pelvic pain. He is an active member of the AAGL and the International Pelvic Pain Society. It was his research and work presented at the 2014 IPPS annual conference, that inspired us to have him on the show! Once the etiology and symptoms are addressed in the aforementioned manner, the mechanical faults leading to PN/PNE are further corrected by prescribing proper rehabilitative techniques. Empower yourself and regain control over Chronic Pelvic Pain! MSW,MPH part 2 in our show set that began yesterday with Dr. Deborah Coady. Nancy Fish is here to discuss in depth with our host Danielle Bevan Jones, the emotional side of painful sex..... An area that is just as important as healing the physical side of these conditions..... Bio: Nancy Fish is a psychotherapist with an MSW and MPH from Columbia University and has a private practice in Bergen County, New Jersey.  She also graduated Barnard College in 1981.  She also works part time in Dr. Deborah Coady’s office.  Nancy has always specialized in chronic illness but became a patient of Dr. Coady’s in 2006.  Having similar professional styles and seeing a lack of good medical and psychological care for women with sexual pain, Nancy felt it was her mission to write this book.  A significant portion of Nancy’s clients are women suffering from sexual pain. Nancy uses an eclectic approach combining  family life cycle, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral therapeutic interventions.  One of Nancy's most important goals with patients is to instill hope since so many of her clients are so debilitated and live in a state of hopelessness and fear.  Because Nancy is a pelvic pain patient as well as a trained psychotherapist, she has added credibility with her clients. 01:00:00PelvicMessengernoWomens Health, sexual health, pelvic pain, healing emotional pain, healthy relationships.Welcome co Author of the brand new book - "Healing Painful Sex" NANCY FISH.
