The son of two physicians, Will is originally from Long Beach, CA. An accomplished student, golfer and musician coming out of high school, Will attended UCLA with hopes of playing collegiate golf. When those dreams failed to materialize, lacrosse was the next step. Will learned to play and honor the game from his two amazing coaches, Mike Allan and Lane Jaffe.  By his junior year, Will had become a starter on defense and had the honor of being a captain for one game during his senior season. In the fall of 2006 Will assisted Mitch Fenton in founding the West LA Lacrosse Association.  With former teammate Isaac Osei-Bobie, the two coached the inaugural West LA “Cougars.”  What started with a little over a dozen kids has grown into something really special. Golf and medical school gave way to 6-diamond mesh and the coach’s whistle…and he wouldn’t have it any other way.  Will currently coaches the U-15 Santa Monica Boy’s team and is actively involved with West LA Lacrosse.  In addition Will helps coordinate UCLA Lacrosse Alumni events throughout the year. Will is also the general manager of South Swell Sports - the only lacrosse specialty store in LA County.  00:59:00Kamala Nellennoyouth, family, lacrosse, high school, golfAug. 8, 2012 Dana will be talking with youth lacrosse coach Will Madrid. In 9th grade, Robin walked 250 batters - a sin in softball! However, she quickly found her focus, buying into the ‘500 pitches a day’ theory and ended up breaking national high school consecutive NO-Hit records, winning back-to-back-to-back league, sectionals and state championship in her senior year. Her high school accolades include Minnesota State and Sectional Champions, national No-hit records, and being acknowledged on ESPN and in Sports Illustrated. She attended the University of Minnesota where her accolades include Big Ten Champions and winning the U. of Minnesota’s first NCAA regional game against Texas A & M. Her lowest E.R.A was .88. She was All-Big Ten. After graduation, Robin was inducted into the University of Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame. After College Robin played with a few Women's Major Teams, predominantly the Topton VIPs, of Lyons, PA. She also played with the Twin City Jammers and Allentown Pates. She has played professionally around the US as well as with the championship Centrals from DeBilt, Utrecht, Netherlands. Robin has continued coaching at her alma mater, Stockbridge Valley C.S. N.Y. She has coached soccer, volleyball, and softball to back to back to back championships in each sport. Her volleyball team was undefeated. She has trained state accolade players and reached sectional finals in all three sports. She has been pitching coach and head coach at DIII schools, where she pulled the programs all the way to regional sides. Her dream now is to coach a D1 team. John coached the winning team at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals of the CrossFit Games this year and this coming weekend his team is in Southern California going up against 35 teams from around the world. As diverse as CrossFit is, they have an unusual way of preparing for the unknown and unknowable. These athletes don’t know what they are doing until they get to the games! John competed as a martial artist as a youth. He began coaching as a martial arts instructor at age 18. Later he helped manage the Greensboro Sportsplex, running the strength and conditioning program as well as speed and agility training for youth athletes. He is a part owner of a PlyoCity plyometrics training program.  John has coached in Mexico, Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean, and with Volleyball Vacations and Ultimate Sports Vacations in the Bahamas.  After being hired to work with the Fire Combat Challenge team for the City of Greensboro, he discovered CrossFit and has never looked back.  Greensboro’s Fire Combat team placed fifth in the world championship that year in Las Vegas where one athlete performed a sub 90-second time on the course (only 25 people in the world have completed the course at that speed.) He has coached 50 athletes to receive Division1 scholarships as well as training numerous professional and semi-professional athletes. His CrossFit athletes have won the Battle on the Border, the Carolina Fitness Challenge as well as the CrossFit Games Open competition for the Mid-Atlantic Region.  Get your questions emailed asap to coachingforchampions@gmai.com to be eligible for a free performance coaching session with Dana! 01:00:00Kamala Nellennosports performance, fitness, life, youth, familyJuly 11, 2012 noon ET on Peakperformancetalk, Dana Nellen will talk with head coach John Meeks of Greensboro, NC CrossFit. Jaeger Sports, in Los Angeles, CA was founded on the principle that training should address more than just an athlete's physical skills and preparation. Because a baseball player's performance is typically a reflection of his mental skills and focus, their programs are not limited solely to the physical/mechanical aspects of training.  A significant amount of our training addresses the development of each player’s mental approach to performance. More specifically, players learn that success is ultimately based on a mental trust that allows reactions, instincts and talents to take over in game situations, "when it counts".Join the chat room so you can participate in the discussion. 01:01:00Kamala Nellennobusiness, sports training, entertainment, family, youthJoin us at noon ET on June 27, 2012 when Dana will chat with baseball trainer Alan Jaeger.
