July 11, 2012 noon ET on Peakperformancetalk, Dana Nellen will talk with head coach John Meeks of Greensboro, NC CrossFit. John coached the winning team at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals of the CrossFit Games this year and this coming weekend his team is in Southern California going up against 35 teams from around the world. As diverse as CrossFit is, they have an unusual way of preparing for the unknown and unknowable. These athletes don’t know what they are doing until they get to the games!

John competed as a martial artist as a youth. He began coaching as a martial arts instructor at age 18. Later he helped manage the Greensboro Sportsplex, running the strength and conditioning program as well as speed and agility training for youth athletes. He is a part owner of a PlyoCity plyometrics training program.  John has coached in Mexico, Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean, and with Volleyball Vacations and Ultimate Sports Vacations in the Bahamas.  After being hired to work with the Fire Combat Challenge team for the City of Greensboro, he discovered CrossFit and has never looked back.  Greensboro’s Fire Combat team placed fifth in the world championship that year in Las Vegas where one athlete performed a sub 90-second time on the course (only 25 people in the world have completed the course at that speed.) He has coached 50 athletes to receive Division1 scholarships as well as training numerous professional and semi-professional athletes. His CrossFit athletes have won the Battle on the Border, the Carolina Fitness Challenge as well as the CrossFit Games Open competition for the Mid-Atlantic Region.  Get your questions emailed asap to coachingforchampions@gmai.com to be eligible for a free performance coaching session with Dana!
