Mike Philson is committed to building a better America. He facilitates the interactions that connect people to their dreams, and humanity to each other. A cultural connector, Mike’s story evidences the American dream, rising from poverty and public housing in an AIDS affected household to becoming an international champion of hope and steward of humanity.
Mike studied Government at Harvard College, obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in 2008. At Harvard, Mike was an on-campus cultural & civic leader, servant via the Phillips Brooks House Association and leader in the Harvard Black Men’s Forum, as well as an entrepreneur and student-activist.
Mike works closely with cutting-edge service organizations, including NAACP, where he serves as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Chair of Education and Community Affairs, as well as the Newark Yoga, MissionBe as an advisor, and many more impacting society & education in service to 50,000+ children around the world. He has 15+ years of experience in creating and serving community programs that sustain impact.
Mike has been featured on national television and leading media outlets as a powerful curator of culture, community organizer, and man of God. He collaborates with Civil Rights Icons, Law Enforcement, & Universities, and has received critical acclaim as premier cultural force for good, hosted MLK Day Podcast at SiriusXM, & been featured on MTV, CNBC, & more.
Michael is going to talk to us about the practice of mindfulness and how it can be used to reduce stressors impacting the lives of adolescents in low income neighborhoods. Michael has successfully used mindfulness to teach adolescents to have stillness, pay attention, stay on task, and make good choices,” He will be teaching a mindfulness pilot project in charlotte NC.
