A North Carolina native, Linda Coleman was born and raised in Greenville, NC. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina A&T State University and later earned a Master in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

Starting her career as a classroom teacher, Linda is a proven leader who has been an effective voice for North Carolina. She was elected, Chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners, to serve three terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives, and under the appointment of Governor Bev Perdue to serve as the Director of the Office of State Personnel. She also ran for Lt. Governor in 2012 and was just narrowly defeated by less than 7,000 votes.

She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Links Inc., Wake County Democratic Women and many other civic and social organizations.

She is running for Lt. Governor to give North Carolina’s middle class a fighting chance again, standing up for families, teachers and women. If elected, Linda will be the second female Lt. Governor in North Carolina’s history-the first African American woman, and the first African American woman outside of the judiciary elected in a statewide race. She will also be the first independently elected African American Lt. Governor in the nation.
