Welcome Denny Gillem, host of Frontlines of Freedom!
Denny Gillem, Lt. Colonel, USA, Inf., (Ret.), is host to the radio program, Frontlines of Freedom. He is a United States Military Academy, West Point graduate, commissioned as an Army Infantry Second Lieutenant, class of June 1964. His first assignment was to the 5 Infantry, Division Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, CO where he met his future wife, Marilyn, then served in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division. After a year he returned to command an airborne rifle company of the 101 Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY and to marry Marilyn.
While at Campbell; his company deployed to the Detroit Riots in 1967. Shortly thereafter his division deployed to Vietnam in time for the Tet Offensive, 1968. Denny received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and 7 U.S. awards for valor during his two combat tours. Selected for early promotion to major, the Army sent him sent to earn his masters degree in political science at the University of Texas at El Paso then he served with the ROTC unit at Stanford University, earning another MA (in Education) and helped to close the ROTC unit.
