Listen to the Sun. June 19, 2022 special edition of the Pan-African Journal: Worldwide Radio Broadcast hosted by Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire. We are honoring Black Music Month which began in the late 1970s. Also today is Juneteenth, a national holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation from enslavement in 1865. Our PANW report features the following dispatches where the large-scale arms shipments to Ukraine by Washington has not altered the course of the war; a debate over the status of United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Mali has erupted at the Security Council; there have been demonstrations in Tunisia against the government of President Kais Saied; and Juneteenth is being commemorating throughout the U.S. amid the escalation in racial strife. In the second and third hours we focus our attention on two legendary musical and social icons who have contributed immensely to African and world culture: Miriam Makeba and Richie Havens.
