This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy discusses the phenomenon behind “winged cats” - cats with wing-like appendages. But the unusual animal investigation doesn’t stop there. Also discussed will be the Ayam Cemani chicken of Indonesia, a rare breed whose entire body is black. Not just feathers, but head, beak, eyes, legs and even the insides.
Oxitec, a British biotech company, plans to release an experimental mosquito population in the Florida Keys genetically engineered to combat dengue fever. Local residents are concerned for a number of reasons, such as the lack of testing done, and the sudden introduction of a non-native species into the local population.
Are mosquitoes just the tip of the iceberg? According to some accounts, genetically modified “micro humans” could be used in scientific testing within two years. Although the dangers of genetically engineered humans should be obvious, the benefits could outweigh the cost if there is the possibility of eradicating diseases and potentially find a cure for the greatest disease of all: aging and death.
