Tonight's special guest is Lisa from New York City, a returning member of our NAASCA family who many will recognize as a frequent participant on the panels of our BlogTalkRadio shows. She's here to talk about her experience with 'court-ordered rape'. Lisa grew up in a middle-class family in Teaneck, New Jersey, along with her two brothers. Happy for the most part, she even started college a bit early. Then she discovered a man she had been dating for years had intentionally infected her with the herpes virus. She took him to court. Eventually the Judge ordered Lisa to submit to an invasive pelvic exam requested by the defendant and against her will, for no medical or legal reasons. Medical evaluation of victims of sexual assault are often expected as part of the procedure for collection of evidence – body fluids, DNA sample collection, wound / bruise documentation. However, 'court-ordered rape' refers specifically to body cavity examinations conducted in some states at the request of the assailant in order to conduct discovery on the body of a person, even without his/her consent to such an exam. Lisa first appeared on our show in 2017 (episode #1662). Since then Lisa learned there are numerous children who experience these humiliating and re-traumatizing exams at the hands of a doctor (see the recent report). NAASCA knows "institutional abuse" is rampant, worldwide, and dramatically effects the childhood experience, frequently causing trauma that lasts a lifetime. In that vein, Lisa is now an outspoken advocate for victims rights and raising the public consciousness of the presence and impact of this crime. Please call in to join us for this special topic discussion!
