Truth and lies

We have spoken about truth being eternal and lies being temporal. However, knowing that a lie will at some stage fail is little comfort to those deceived by it  and (if only for a time) robbed of the truth.

Is there any way by which a lie may be recognized in the early stages of its influence and its power on our lives reduced?
