And once again, Michigan is leading the way. These advances in technology-driven innovation require us to explore the changing landscape of mobility and consider the new and unique challenges of testing of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). One area to explore is physical  testing. Will traditional physical testing take a back seat to cutting-edge computerized simulation testing with its promise of bringing the future to us sooner with greater safety and less expense? The annual CAAT Conference, this year focused on "Testing Tomorrow's Autonomous Vehicles Today", will explore how automakers are looking at the future of mobility and testing vehicles for an endless array of possible driving scenarios, and how technical training will need to adapt and change. It sounds simple, but there are a lot of “parts” to consider and it can be a complex, time consuming and expensive process. TechCrunch recently posted an article, “Why app development is going micro” that describes a new trend in app development (https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/11/why-app-development-is-going-micro/).  It is an idea whose time has come. Instead of diving in head first and creating a full blown traditional app that may be cumbersome, or simply not what you need, micro apps allow for simpler solutions that focus on a specific function creating greater efficiencies and providing an ability to quickly pivot when necessary. In terms of connected transportation one might assume it would be focused on the autonomous vehicle - and that certainly is part of it. but it's much more than that. It's about getting goods and people from Point A to Point B, using vehicles for personal use, fleet vehicles, public transit, ride-sharing, bicycles, car-sharing, self-driving cars, planes, trains, and any other form of motorized transport. It often includes an on-demand component, and it also includes factoring in the infrastructure needed to support this new Mobility dynamic. As more and more industries in our state are engaging the use of the Internet of Things or connected technologies such as those required for autonomous vehicles, the training required to perform jobs in every industry needs to adapt just as quickly as the technologies themselves do. In order to help Michigan get ahead of the curve on this issue, the Workforce Intelligence Network is moderating a meeting of the MAGMA Advisory Council (Michigan Alliance for Greater Mobility Advancement) on September 16th. an expert panel at this event will discuss topics suchs as CAV/IoT hiring, training and talent challenges, as well as regional overviews of CAV deployment activities. Michigan’s labor supply is strong with 16.7% of all degree completers in STEM degrees, which is slightly higher than the national average of 14.2%. Michigan is home to some of the finest higher-education institutions in the world, including some of the largest public-research universities in the nation. And since 2010, STEM employment opportunities have continued to grow, and have outpaced overall occupational growth in the state. STEM job opportunities are expected to grow by 11.8% through 2020 compared with 8.5% for all occupations. More than 75% of U.S. automotive research and development occurs in Michigan. Our largest metro area, Detroit, is ranked 3rd in the U.S. as a prime source for technology jobs, and is still in the top ten metro areas for patent applications - a standard in measuring innovation. However, these components are disconnected with our current and future needs, and our edge may be slipping as a result.  Please join Melissa Birnie and Gary Farina, Executive Director of Michigan STEM Partnership, on August 31st at 9:00 A.M when they discuss current and future recommendations to enable Michigan to be competitive in retaining and fostering talent for the jobs of the future.             00:32:00Michigan Mobile MusingsnoA Vision for STEM in Michigan,MTAM,Mobile Technology Association of Michigan,STEM,Michigan STEM PartnershipEmpowering STEM in MichiganMTAM Talent Exchange, Powered by WorkFountainhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2016/08/26/mtam-talent-exchange-powered-by-workfountainTechnologyhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2016/08/26/mtam-talent-exchange-powered-by-workfountain/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2016/08/26/mtam-talent-exchange-powered-by-workfountainFri, 26 Aug 2016 13:00:00 GMTMTAM Talent Exchange, Powered by WorkFountainWorkFountain is a proven web-based talent matching tool that addresses the unique recruiting needs of the small to mid-sized business community. Michigan firm Jacobs Media has for years been doing research to find out, and their sister firm, jacAPPS, an app development firm (and MTAM member) puts that research to work in the apps it developers for its clients. Jacobs Media's annual research looks at consumer reactions to connected vehicles, their preferences for features, and their interest in the direction the industry is heading. Jacobs Media & jacAPPS principals then present this information at various conferences throughout the year while jacAPPS incorporates this knowledge into their work.  Jacobs Media also works with some of the nation's industry media measurement organizations to assist them with research, and can often report on those results as well. Please join Melissa Birnie and  Paul Jacobs, President of jacAPPS, and  one of MTAM's earliest and longest-term members on July 20th at 9:00 A.M. in a discussion of their recent consuemer research.  If you are interested in what consumer wants in a car in the future, what technology are impacting the broadcast industry, this show is for you.     00:35:00Michigan Mobile MusingsnoMTAM,Mobile Technology Association of Michigan, jacApps,Jacobmedia,RadioMichigan firm, Jacobs Media studies the industry & sister firm jacAPPS puts that research to workBoot Camp for Non-Tech Entrepreneurs -SBDC-West Michiganhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2016/07/06/boot-camp-for-non-tech-entrepreneurs-sbdc-west-michiganTechnologyhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2016/07/06/boot-camp-for-non-tech-entrepreneurs-sbdc-west-michigan/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2016/07/06/boot-camp-for-non-tech-entrepreneurs-sbdc-west-michiganWed, 06 Jul 2016 13:30:00 GMTBoot Camp for Non-Tech Entrepreneurs -SBDC-West MichiganThe use of Mobile/Wireless technologies are fast becoming a critical element in the growth and productivity of companies in every industry. Tired of bouncing between websites and social media pages, they decided to do something about it. Over the past year they've been working hard to make sure the residents of their hometowns never miss an event they care about. An events app that helps you find out about things happening in communities you care about. You can use the app to search through hundreds of events entered by organizations such as public libraries, farmers markets, shopping districts, hotels, and city governments. When you find events you're interested in, you can add them to your favorites, add them to your calendar, and share them with friends and family. You can also follow organizations to see what other upcoming events they are hosting. LocalHop is currently available in Southeast Michigan. Few make it out. Coupon Wallet appears to be one of those making it out of Beta and into the world of paying customers. The Sterling Heights-based startup that calls the Macomb-OU INCubator home converted its first users into customers earlier this summer. Coupon Wallet, a marketing platform founded in October 2012 as a technological solution for the transition from paper coupons to a digital alternative, is an end-to-end digital coupon platform that includes managed marketing services and point-of-sale integration. Coupon Wallet's method of digital clearing allows businesses access to greater information about who is using their coupons thereby enabling businesses to draw marketing conclusions from this data to improve ROI. Consider this; currently there are more wireless devices than there are people. The plus side is, of course, all of the great things we can do with this connectivity. The bad side is, at what risk? Recently 104,000 IRS records were breached. Are patient healthcare accounts secure?  These, and questions like them, will need answers as we continue the evolution to a 'connected society'. On June 1st, join host Melissa Birnie as she speaks with Dan Lohrmann, Chief Security Officer & Chief Strategist at Security Mentor, Inc., and most recently, Chief Security Officer for the State of Michigan, to learn more about IoT and the security challenges we will face as IoT becomes more prevalent. Our guest Dan Lohrmann holds a master’s degree in computer science from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Valparaiso University in Indiana, and has more than 28 years of experience in the computer industry. The thought of not being connected is disappointing to some and terrifying to others. After all, whatever would we do if we couldn’t access social media, email, or call to check on the kids as we walk to the next business meeting? Few people contemplate the reason their wireless device does work in building basements, hospitals, and many other buildings. Thankfully, in these instances, someone saw the need to increase signal strength and paid to have that signal enhanced or rebroadcast. RF Connect, based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is the recognized leader in the design, deployment and support of high performance unified wireless systems, mobile solutions and applications. They set the standard in wireless and mobile solutions, design and deployment expertise through partnering with industry leaders across the entire RF spectrum. Join host Melissa Birnie as she talks with Jeff Hipchen (recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business Magazine as a “40 under 40” business leader), and currently Executive Vice President of RF Connect, to learn more about RF Connect, their services, and what sets them apart from others in this field. 00:29:00Michigan Mobile Musingsno#MTAM,#MichiganMobileMusings,#JeffHipchen,#RFConnect,#MelissaBirnieSetting the Standard in Wireless and Mobile SolutionsConnected Vehicle; Hype or Happening?http://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2015/05/11/connected-vehicle-hype-or-happening-1Technologyhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2015/05/11/connected-vehicle-hype-or-happening-1/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2015/05/11/connected-vehicle-hype-or-happening-1Mon, 11 May 2015 19:30:00 GMTConnected Vehicle; Hype or Happening? The concept of a 'connected car' has been around for quite a while, but in the last few years exciting advancements in tech and automotive have converged to provide us with 'connected' opportunities that the average consumer likely never thought possible. With 1.2 billion cars in service worldwide today, and 90 million more produced and sold every year, the opportunities for the automotive industry and tech firms focused on automotive are substantial. However, the challenges are also substantial; areas such as safety, security, legal issues, impact on related industries such as insurance, vehicle repair and more have to be considered as advances in connected vehicle technologies continue. How do we manage all this? On our upcoming show, Elaina Farnsworth, CEO of Michigan-based Mobile Comply, an international leader in mobile training and curriculum development will share her connected vehicle industry expertise. Elaina is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Mobile Technology Association of Michigan, and a member of the Oakland County Connected Vehicle Task Force. Elaina will discuss the recently launched, Connected Vehicle Professional credentialing program collaboratively launched between SAE International, Connected Vehicle Trade Association (CVTA) and Mobile Comply. She will also discuss the upcoming ConNext event being hosted by Mobile Comply on Thursday, May 14th at the Townsend Hotel. Join host Melissa Birnie and her guest, Elaina Farnsworth, for a wide-ranging discussion on the current status and future expectations of connected cars.   00:31:00Michigan Mobile Musingsno#Elaina Farnworth,#Mobile Comply,#Connected Vehicle Professional certification,#SAE International,#CVTAConnected Vehicle; Hype or Happening?Pixo Group - If You Can Imagine It, We Can Create Ithttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2015/04/29/pixo-group--if-you-can-imagine-it-we-can-create-itTechnologyhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2015/04/29/pixo-group--if-you-can-imagine-it-we-can-create-it/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtam/2015/04/29/pixo-group--if-you-can-imagine-it-we-can-create-itWed, 29 Apr 2015 14:00:00 GMTPixo Group - If You Can Imagine It, We Can Create ItIn 2009 a select group of Detroit’s innovators and tech savvy artists came together to create a video game studio.
