Speakers discussed issues related to water, such as pollution, conservation and delivery with the winner walking away with $50,000 in cash and business-support services to apply to their environmental innovation: in the case of Micro Buoy - a tiny, solar-powered sensor that can be mounted on buoys to detect harmful contaminants in water. Michigan’s labor supply is strong with 16.7% of all degree completers in STEM degrees, which is slightly higher than the national average of 14.2%. Michigan is home to some of the finest higher-education institutions in the world, including some of the largest public-research universities in the nation.
