Many times when we think of sorrow, we do not think of an opportunity to draw closer to God. If we are not careful, we can allow sorrow to actually lead us away from God and into sin which unfortunately happens too often. This tends to be true if the suffering is a consequence of our sin. At other times, when suffering is occuring due to things outside of our control, we can also channel that pain in the wrong direction due to lack of understanding and/or bitterness.
I wanted to speak on sorrow, not just any sorrow, but the heart wrenching sorrow. The sorrow that keeps us up at night and causes some to start to question whether life is worth living anymore. I feel this topic is so important in a world full of so much sorrow. In Christ we can gain the power to allow our suffering (for whatever reason) to draw us into a deeper relationship with him and ultimately others.
2 Corinthians 7:10 "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."
Isaiah 41:10 "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
