Meet Miss Black USA New Jersey Daphne Lee

Miss Black New Jersey, Daphne Lee Crowned Miss Black USA 2017

Washington D.C., August 20th, 2017- Daphne Lee wins the title of Miss Black USA 2017. Lee is the first winner from the state of New Jersey to be crowned Miss Black USA in the pageant’s 30-year history.

Lee, is currently a professional ballerina and dancer. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Dance at the Ailey Fordham Dance Academy. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Dance at Hollins University. During her reign, she will serve as a celebrity advocate for the Heart Truth campaign to raise awareness of heart disease and promote healthy lifestyles.

The pageant, a week-long event kicked off on the 16th of August and culminated with the crowning of Lee on August 20th. The event was live streamed as contestants opened with an upbeat dance number wearing heels by Liliana footwear, the official shoe sponsor. Lee won a $20,000 prize package including a $5,000 academic scholarship. Contestants were judged in Evening Gown, On Stage Interview, Talent and Personal Fitness. Lee also won the Trailblazer Award recognizing a contestant who has oustanding accomplishments, demonstrated leadership skills and activism in her community. Other pageant sponsors included: Dr. Myla Bennett, Owner of Edella Spa, ORS Olive Oil, Lamik Beauty, Intent Event Therapy and shOO Nail Polish.

The non-profit organization was founded in 1986 seeking to provide educational opportunities to outstanding young African American women and to develop the whole woman, mind, body and spirit.
