We're at a place in time when our children are in danger. The community is under assault; adults are randomly harassed; and senior citizens live under complete disregard. This segment looks closer at organizations like the NAACP, politicians, preachers and other so-called leaders to determine if they're doing the job, or if they should be replaced. Something is wrong with our current system of government. Our so-called leaders have not led anything. Reverend so-and-so and deacon what's-his-name need to take the back seat on the train. We're tired of the situation they've allowed to develop in our communities and low-income apartment areas (where mostly blacks live). Though we believed otherwise, medical-marijuana was and is not a new trend. Medical scholars have been studying, using and writing about marijuana for a long time, leaving behind hundreds of journals written between 1840 and 1930 documenting marijuana-use as an acute pain reliever; and also to treat emaciation, neuralgia and convulsive disorders as well as nausea. Legalizing marijuana will not increase its number of users; it will merely remove the threat of punishment for those who do.  For example, the man or woman who did not care for alcohol during prohibition did not suddenly develop a thirst for it when alcohol was legalized. 100 people die a day from prescription drug overdose, writes the Washington Post; and in comparison, there are no deaths attributed to marijuana overdose. Yet the drug that allegedly kills 100 people a day is legal, while medical marijuana is illegal.   Does this mean prescription drugs are accepted because they are legal? And marijuana is illegal because no one has overdosed on it yet? Dr. Sanja Gupta had this to say when making the comparison, “Most frightening to me is that someone dies in the United States every 19 minutes from a prescription drug overdose, mostly accidental. Every 19 minutes. It is a horrifying statistic. We often want things that we don't need; and likewise, we need things we don't want. For example, we use money that's designated for utilities and buy shoes or jewelry or something else we have buyer's remorse over. Or we're drawn to the wrong types of men and spend more time in the emergency room getting treatment for abuse, or at the precinct getting restraining orders. The point is, we heal faster when we bond with sisters in the spirit of genuine kindness and compassion. Women are nurturers and healers by nature. We are "helpers" in a deeper sense than merely doing laundry or making beds. Women will rise again to their rightful place when we bond together as sisters to help each other heal. It's a process. Girls shaking in the night hoping the predator in the next room doesn't come and violate them again in the quiet of darkness. Mothers nervously walk around the house on egg shells secretly yearning for this to be the day that her husband or boyfriend doesn't beat her in front of her children. Toddlers cry unsuspectingly; unaware that this may be the one cry that causes his parents or babysitter to flip out and deliver the deadly blow. Elderly women become prey for the lost and wandering soul that's darkened by greed and deep-seated disregard for womanhood and motherhood. Though women are God's choice for creation and the vehicle through which all life has to come, she is widely disrected; and disrespect is fastly becoming her legacy...or at least it WAS.
