Folake Taylor was born in the United Kingdom to Nigerian–born parents in the early 70s and was raised in both countries before settling in the United States to live the American dream. Taylor obtained her medical degree (MB ChB–Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) in 1998 from the Obafemi Awolowo University College of Health Sciences in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. After medical school, she underwent a year of rotational internship in Nigeria after which she relocated to the United States. She is a 2006 graduate of the Internal Medicine Residency Program of the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. Her objective for her debut, The Only Way is Up is to facilitate change in her environment by the collective involvement of each individual in the community. Though dealing with critical issues, this book is written in a laid back often comical manner and will hold your attention till the end. She believes in making the world a better place, one person at a time, one good deed at a time. And she has faith that it is possible if only we try. She communicates this message in The Only Way is Up: The Journey of an Immigrant. Currently, she writes for Afrikan Goddess Online Magazine. She also has two blogs. Her writers’ blog is This ‘n’ That. Her other blog is Empowering You. She will also be writing for MIMI Magazine shortly.
