Speaking to the right audience is perhaps the single most important component of communication. Why? Because if you’re not communicating with potential customers, members or supporters, you’re wasting time. TO KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE YOU MUST KNOW YOURSELF! Knowing who your audience is allows you to adapt the content of your writing to address their main concerns. Are you writing a report to your local community who has an appreciation for the jobs your company brings to town? Are you writing to inform or to persuade your audience?
To build a solid foundation for your business, you must first identify your typical customer and tailor your marketing pitch accordingly. KNOW YOUR MESSAGE (WHAT YOU SEE). Targeting a specific market does not mean that you are excluding people who do not fit your criteria. Rather, target marketing allows you to focus your marketing dollars and brand message on a specific market that is more likely to buy from you than other markets. This is a much more affordable, efficient, and effective way to reach potential clients and generate business.
