CeaseFire is the primary program of the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention. Established in 2000 with the goal of reducing the number of killings in Chicago to a level at or under the national average, it now operates in 17 Chicago communities, one high school, one hospital, and five other cities in Illinois. CeaseFire and CPVP take a strategic public health approach to violence prevention. This includes a full commitment to a specific objective (in this case stopping shootings), the setting of long-term and short-term goals, strategy development based on best practices and adapted to the local situation by local practitioners, and a management structure that works at both the community and city/county levels. Barbara will be joined by Director Tio Hardiman, Director of Evaluation Elena Quintana, as well as two Violence Interrupters who will talk about their work in the community.
