Inspired by such artists as Fiona Apple, Ben Folds, and Alicia Keys, many of their songs are passionate creations of the lead vocalist and piano player, Sarah Bollinger, who grew up in the midst of the St. Louis blues scene. Her booming, soulful voice is reminiscent of Eva Cassidy, Adele, and Lauryn Hill, and Sarah leads the band with a commanding presence. In addition to Sarah, the other three members of the band were raised in the South and bring with them a Southern Americana influence. Jonathan Spencer (basses), Justin Gorinsky (guitars), and Paul Lanier (drums) came together to form the band in collaboration with Sarah in August of 2009 playing gospel tunes and re-vamped hymns for a progressive church located in St. Louis city. Their repertoire soon expanded to include Sarah’s heart-rending and thought-provoking originals. The band began playing in local bars and clubs around the St. Louis area and quickly grew a large following of faithful fans. SSE will be playing the newly revived Lunar Menagerie on April 22. Bill was a staple of the previous iteration of the Lunar Menagerie at the Way Out Club, playing his intelligent blend of wry humor, heartfelt observation, and critical mind. During that time, Bill was heading his band Urban Blight Players as they frequently played out around St. Louis. Bill is back for another go-round with the Reverend, keeping the flock entertained with folk music to laugh and think by.00:31:00Reverend Brimstoneyesfolk music,Bill Michalski,St Louis,Kenneth Pruitt, musicDuring this installment of Lunar Menagerie radio, Reverend Brimstone welcomes native St. Louisan, smart-aleck postcard designer, musician, and all around good gMauri Lavelle, a.k.a. Lavelle SpitzThe first performer in Reverend Brimstone's lineup on April 22 will be local rapper, Lavelle Spitz. On lavellespitz.blogspot.com, he presents himself this way: "Whether you refer to him as “Lavelle (luh-vel) Spitz” or as many people know him by “Mauri” (mar-ee), “The River City” lyricist embraces people and the world he lives in as he does his music, in more ways than one. Hailing from St. Louis’ South Side, Lavelle’s character, composed of a well-diverse, introspective, and urbanized uniqueness from the Midwestern City, is greatly shown through his music combining hip-hop & soul and cleverly intricate lyrics to display a message of diversity within his City, despite the preconceived perceptions of the STL. Working with (Cole Blooded Inc.), Lavelle Spitz is in progress with his forthcoming album titled“Loose Leaf Statements”and with production from label mate, Young Cue (1/2 of The Domino Effect), the album seeks to bring a newer sound from St. Louis Hip-Hop as Lavelle's main goal is to continue making (+) music beyond "LooseLeaf Statements and reach the people directly. Now with completion of "LooseLeaf Statements" Lavelle is currenntly in progress with his 1st mixtape titled "The City Slicker" set for Fall 2010. Stay Tuned once again." We'll be discussing music with Lavelle, taking YOUR phone calls, and holding our fiery breath as this STL lyricist faces Brimstone's Breakneck Trivia.00:31:00Reverend Brimstonenohip-hop,rap,Lavelle Spitz,St Louis, musicThe first performer in Reverend Brimstone's lineup on April 22 will be local rapper, Lavelle Spitz.
