  • Close Up Radio Spotlights Artist Ronda Gish of Captive Image 1

    in Art

Cincinnati, OH – Ronda Gish is an artist and founder of Captive Image 1, where she creates art, using various mediums. Most amazing about Ronda is that she never received any formal training, and everything she knows was self-taught.
“I paint with watercolor, oil, acrylic, and ink,” explains Ronda. “I even sculpt – work in clay. I do a lot of different things I draw. I have even written poetry and have been thinking of writing a book.”
“My subject matter depends on what has influenced me,” adds Ronda. “The inspiration depends on how I feel, or what is around me – people and events. I just sit down and start doing something. My mind is always going. I also receive a lot of commission work.”
One of Ronda’s most amazing projects, which took her over eighty hours to complete, was a stained-glass piece for Roger Reiman, famous motorcycle racer and head mechanic for daredevil Evel Knievel. She also recently painted a piece titled The World Today, which depicts and emphasizes diversity. It attracted the attention of national magazines. Another significant project was a meerschaum pipe that she hand-carved for a retiring police officer.
Ronda continues to make art and seeks to focus on it as much as possible.
“Art is in everybody,” concludes Ronda. “Even the person that says ‘I can’t draw a stick figure’ – there is something there. Art is a great outlet for just resting your mind. Everybody should try it.”

  • THE WRITERS LOUNGE PRESENTS: JOHLENE RILEY

    in Writing

Join host Tom Riddell and co-host Teri Brown as they welcome author Johlene Riley to The Writers Lounge. Sit back and relax as Johlene discusses what it's like to be a writer and she will also talk to us about her book: Ghost Hunting- The Gettysburg Files
Ghost Hunting- The Gettysburg Files takes you to a place that is steeped with rich, interesting and somber stories of a time that our country endured great bloodshed. If only the spirits of the multitude of the dead could talk, what would they say? Johlene "Spooky" Riley attempts to answer that question by bringing these battered and broken souls back to life by sharing her private ghost hunting journals with us. There are eleven locations/chapters that she visits in this book and each one of them offers up ghostly stories that will keep you turning the pages until the very last page. In the Ghost Tour Headquarters for example, there is a little girl ghost who answers a request to play with her. She responds by tossing a ty-shirt to the floor. In the Civil War House: A Haunted Past it tells of how there are apartments in that particular building now, but it reminds the reader: "If an apartment sits empty in Gettysburg for any length of time there is usually a reason for it." Some of those reasons will have your hair standing on end. Johlene has had some very "spooky" and amazing experiences and even though she is an experienced investigator she has been scared on a few occasions. Gettysburg is certainly a place where a seasoned ghost hunter would want to travel to. Johlene Riley takes it a step further; she has lived there.

"Poetry IS When an Emotion has Found its Thought and the Thought HAS Found Words"... Robert Frost Poetry has its own individual voice in each of us. It is the lyrics of our experiences that form and shed enlightenment in who we are. Each poem paints what is, what is missing and the desires that burn inside each of us that we crave. They are the door we open in our soul's closet taking out our hidden treasures, exposing them to the world. Trinkets, jewels of emotions of different textures, colors and strengths we place before you in poetry.

  • After Midnight with Rex and Pam...

    in Poetry

Stop in After Midnight, We at L-N-P's After Midnight invite you to- dine on the words, voices of those giants; those ministers to the maelstrom brewing third eye bright, screamt from that reality, billowing, with their breaths. You've suckled with Bukowski, published obscene odes with Ginsberg, went on the Road with Kerouac and broke on through the other side with Morrison. Come .... walk past the edge of Midnight, open those doors wide and step through that portal. And as your eyes see, then the mind becomes a playground, a vast universe,  Unique. Free, of the constraints born in preconceived theories, where your voice, will be uncloaked, Heard.
