Maureen Shea, “The Real Million Dollar Baby”, is a world ranked professional boxer who has fought numerous times on National and International television. Currently the interim World Boxing Council (WBC), Featherweight World Champion, Maureen has also held the North American Boxing Federation Featherweight (NABF) title.  Maureen Shea’s current professional boxing record stands at 18-2 with 11 wins coming by way of knockout.
Born and bred in the Bronx, NY, Maureen is of Irish and Mexican heritage.  She has fought using her full family name of Maureen Shea Carranza and is fluent in Spanish.  In November 2006, while boxing underneath Evander Holyfield at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, Maureen Shea was introduced on her way to the scale as “The Real Million Dollar Baby”.  The name has stuck since that time.  Maureen received international attention in early 2005 as the world came to recognize that she was the female boxer that Hilary Swank studied and sparred with in preparation for her Academy Award winning performance on the movie “Million Dollar Baby“.  It is a connection that has remained and Maureen always acknowledges, but Maureen’s own professional boxing career has made it clear that she will seek her own accomplishments.
Maureen Shea has utilized her ring success to propel her career into mainstream media.  In 2008, MTV nominated Maureen Shea as one of their “Toughest Coaches” for her role in the one hour long season opening episode of “Made”. February 2010, MTV released a thirty minute version of the segment due to its huge popularity. In the show, Maureen guided a young lady still and high school student with no boxing experience, and in six weeks, prepared her for her first competitive amateur bout with a win.
