    Read Any Good Books Lately?

    in Lifestyle

Books have always held a special place in GamerDude's heart. For as long as he can remember, he has used books to visit different places, differnt times, different worlds, and has used them both as entertainment and as an escape. In this episode, he talks about the books he read as a kid, starting in kindergarten, when he discovered Sally, Dick and Jane. He moved on to The Hardy Boys and devoured as many of their books as he could get his hands on.  He talks about discovering The Three Investigators when browsing the Scholastic Book Club Catalog and remembers his favorite sports books: Great Moments in Pro Football, Strange But True Football Stories and Strange But True Baseball Stories. And he talks about the only biography he remembers from childhood - the story of Yankee great, Lou Gehrig.
He also talks about some of his favorite authors.  He discussed his feelings about Stephen King's works, and how he favors his early works far more than his more recent efforts. And he talks about Donald E. Westlake, the prolific master of the caper novel, and two of his favorite books from his teen years: Cops and Robbers and The Hot Rock. He also mentions some of his other favorite authors: Elmore Leonard, Lee Childs, and Michael Connelly, before wrapping up by discussing how much he misses the days when he could just sit and read.

Luminous Life: How the Science of Light Unlocks the Art of Living Fri 8-10-18

    in Lifestyle

Your eyes are the windows to your soul — the key to “seeing the light” that expands your consciousness, allowing you to experience greater presence and aliveness than ever before. That’s the premise in Dr. Liberman’s newest book, Luminous Life: How the Science of Light Unlocks the Art of Living. Integrating 40 years of research, practice and direct experience, this groundbreaking book presents a new science of life. Despite popular belief, presence is not about thinking ahead or trying to be here now. It’s a naturally occurring state that arises when our eyes and mind, activated by light, focus on the same place at the same time. In response to light’s guidance, our eyes begin an intricate dance of aiming, focusing, tracking, and teaming, bringing us to extraordinary states of awareness without effort.
“LUMINOUS LIFE is a 20/20 lens through which we are able to see — perhaps for the very first time — the luminous nature of existence, of presence, of Self.” — Michael Bernard Beckwith

Episode 7 - Internals of Wing Chun with Sifu Lyndon Oudsten

    in Lifestyle

In this episode Gurjot Singh and Sifu Lyndon Oudsten will be discussing the nuances of internal mechanics as they exist in wing chun; a style not often thought of as internal.
Lyndon Oudsten is a life long student of Pencak silat, wing chun, and Shaolin. Although he has 30 years of experience training in the arts his moto serves as motivation for lifelong growth:  "I will never stop learning and consider myself to be an eternal student. The more I know, the more I realise that I only know little."  From age 16 to 30, Sifu Oudsten had a healthy career in mma, boxing, and kickboxing matches. However, around age 30 he realized that his years of fighting had left his body battered. It was at this time he decided to focus on Kung Fu for its practices of health and longevity in addition to being a fighting art.  His journey would take him around the world studying with Wing Chun masters: "I found wing chun, but it wasnt what I expected at first, then I met GM Greg Yau from San Francisco, he is a cousin of 2 direct Ip Man students. GM Chris and Stanley Chan, he taught me a lot about the internals and about applied quantum fysics, in which he is an expert and pioneer. Later I met Sifu Michael Choi, from the Ip Ching and Gary Lam lineage who has taught me Wing Chun system for fighting. Most time I spend training under Choi Sifu, who is in my eyes one of the best Wing Chun fighters in the world." More recently he was invited to train in Malasia under Master Yap Boh Heong from the 5 Ancestors Fist Wuzu of GM Chee Kim Thong. He currently teaches in his school in the Netherlands.  Promotional Video of Sifu Lyndon
