Join host Kristyn and her producer Paula on the letter of courage & activism from Rena Mackert!!!
Excerpts from the letter:
"My name is Rena Mackert. I am a child of polygamy and a former member of what became the FLDS. I am a seventh generation polygamist, the sixth born into it, on my mother's side of the family. My fourth great-grandfather, Isaac Allred, was on the first High Council of the Mormon Church."
"In July, 1976 my assigned husband, my step-brother, announced he wanted nothing to do with polygamy or the FLDS. The prophet, at that time, (Leroy Johnson,) told me to divorce him. About six months later I was summoned to his office. I was ordered to marry the prophet's brother. I refused. I was ordered to submit to his authority, to 'keep sweet... Again I refused. During this meeting he contradicted religious doctrine at least four times. When I told him that Father had been molesting me, he said I was a liar and had the spirit of apostasy. Those words changed my life forever. I knew he was a fraud. "
"I truly believe that decriminalizing polygamy would set human rights and civil rights for women and children in Utah back 100 years. We might as well bring slavery back.
Polygamy is a felony and should remain so."
