Greg Melita started training in Isshinryu under the legendary Sensei Ed McGrath at the East Islip Long Island New York dojo. At the same time he invited some of his High School mates to attend class and that dojo produced some of Sensei McGrath's youngest fighters. They went on to become champion competitors within the tournament circuit in the United States. While training at the East Islip dojo Sensei McGrath opened a dojo inside the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kioto dojo in Sayville New York with Grand Master Francisco Mansor and Greg went on to train with that team as well. 11 years later he earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and now is the owner and CEO of Hamptons Jiu Jitsu in South Hampton Long Island New York. The rest is history. Listen in tonight to hear from Professor Greg Melita his journey in Martial Arts. Mr. Melita hold the rank of Go-Dan in Isshinryu and is a leader in his own right to bring Isshinryu Karatedo to the next generation of students.
It’s not every day you get to meet the world’s most famous mixed martial artist. And it’s more against the odds that you’ll get to watch him train at your place of business. Unless, of course, if your business is in the Hamptons.
SJC Long Island alumnus Greg Melita ’06 had the pleasure of meeting Conor McGregor when the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champ trained at Melita’s jiu-jitsu studio, Hamptons Jiu Jitsu, in Southampton, New York, in June. The martial arts and recovery studio offers Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai kickboxing, yoga, MMA classes, cryotherapy, physical therapy, acupuncture massages, leg compression and sports consultation, all in-house.
