May is National Mental Health Awareness Month

Dr. Krystal Lewis from the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH). She is a licensed clinical psychologist and a researcher at NIMH. She conducts research on anxiety treatment and prevention in children and adolescence.

Tasnim Sulaiman is the owner of Taz Talk Therapy, a private practice specialized in relationships, couples and sex therapy. Tasnim, (warmly known as Taz), is a Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor located in Philadelphia, PA.  She is also the Founder/Executive Director ofBlack Men Heal a nonprofit whose mission is to provide mental health treatment, psychoeducation, and community resources to men of color. Black Men Heal is one of the first organizations that offers free quality psychotherapy sessions to men of color by clinicians of color.

Within the African American community, one of the biggest hindrances includes opening up to a therapist that neither looks like them, nor can relate culturally.  Tomina Ward is the CEO and Founder of Black Therapy Love App.Black Therapy Love App provides a place where those seeking services can interact with therapists, counselors, and coaches opening the dialogue and bridging the gap between mental health professionals and the Black community.  The app is also considered user friendly, allowing for user messaging, access to professionals’ profiles and the ability to get to know a bit more of their why.
