But don’t let her infectious laugh fool you: Cocoa Brown is the real thing! Born and raised in Newport News, Virginia, Cocoa started acting at age ten. In college she graduated from Virginia Commonwealth Univ with a BS in Mass Communications, and minored in Theatre Arts; and then obtained her Masters in Secondary Education from the Univ of Phoenix. For a time she worked for the firm that owns and operates Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and Disney On Ice. 1997 saw her retirement from corporate America to pursue stand-up comedy full-time. In just seven months as a stand-up comic, Cocoa won the Washington Comedian of the Year, which set off a string of events that would eventually land her on the big screen in Lakeview Terrace (Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington), and on TV (Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse; ER; Two Broke Girls; The First Family; Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23; Las Vegas; and more).
