Dr.Rose's- Death as FINAL CHOICE? -CIVIL REBELLION;

I'm 81 and have lived a long, productive, and mostly happy life. I have a loving wife and family that continues to make my life worth living. My radio show and my writing give me the chance to express my views and help people make more thoughtful choices. My POV has been that all of our social institutions are set up to control our thoughts and actions and therefore limit our choices. I'd like to choose the time I die. Of course, I can be taken before that by an accident or be murdered by a jealous husband (what an imagination?).  my point is that if I lose what is called my self, that is, my memory is gone, or am so sick I just lie there in pain and my bodily functions must be cared for by others, I'd like to choose physican-assisted death. I want my family around me the moment I die so that I can feel their ;ove and not die ALONE. One brother-in-law called me (he was Catholoic, but he called his atheist brother-in-law because he knew I'd be honest) when he'd been told the cancer that he'd held off for years would soon take him. He wanted to know whether I thought he should take the treatments that would prolong his life. I guided him through his thinking and he made the choice to die earlier. When he did, two of his four children, and his wife were at his bedside and as he died his last words, "I love you." I think he died in peace and love. I want to have the same choice and be surrounded by my loved ones - those that choose to be there at that moment. It would spare them watching my terrible descent as my "self" disappeared.
